International break is over, our new arrivals have all settled in and this should be a good test of where we are at this season. After the disappointment of the Huddersfield loss hopefully Rafa will have us back to the hard-to-beat away team we were last season and building on the confidence from the West Ham game. Game is on Sunday 10th September at the Liberty Stadium in Swansea. Travel directions are shown below. This assumes you all live at St James Park so send me your address if you need personalised ones. It looks a bloody long way but fortunately its the 4pm UK (10pm WIB) fixture so presumably on Sky there and Nexmedia/BEIN here. Anyone without a Sky subscription is welcome round to my house to watch. Its actually probably cheaper to get a return flight here than take out a Sky subscription. Let me know in advance so I can get the beers in. Suspect we will line up as follows: Elliot Manquillo (unless Yedlin is fit) Lejeune (if fit or Lascelles) Mbemba (if fit or Dummett (if fit) or Haidara (for DPP) Clark Merino Shelvey (although I would stick with Hayden and have Shelvey on the bench) Ritchie Perez Atsu Joselu Would be very happy with a 1-1 draw but just hope we show a bit of attacking intent if we do go down early.
It will be interesting to see if Shelvey is brought back in. If Merino's seen as competition with him then it would be hard to leave him out, not to mention that Shelvey has put himself to the back of the queue with his on pitch stupidity. Would be tempted to just use Shelvey as a sub against his old club tbh.
Same here - feel that Hayden and Merino will be more compact and solid to start with then bring Shelvey on if we need more creativity in the 2nd half.
Exactly!! 10th September okay but which year? Lots of people could turn up in the wrong year and how do you think they will feel? Wouldn't catch Chippy making such an amateurish mist... err,... Cracking thread Jakman so much better than Chippy's pathetic efforts.
Just had a look at the fixtures to the end of October, we play 4 times on the Sunday at 4pm and 4.30pm and once at 8pm on the Monday so looks like a lot of exposure on Sky Sports starting from this Sunday against Swansea.
Definitely, just imagine what stupid thing he'll do in front of a load of fans he offered out only 2 year back.
I am sure they do, it is good in revenue terms because the clubs get a flat fee for 10 games or less, this season around £10 million and then a further estimated £1 million per match televised over the 10 match threshold. No disrespect to some of the other clubs but Sky want the bigger fan bases to be watching, car crash is good for neutrals as well, so a combination of a large fan base plus drama one way or another gets more games, I know that while I may watch Liverpool v Man Utd, or Chelsea v Arsenal as a neutral I won't be watching Bournemouth v Stoke or some of the other lesser teams unless they are playing us.
I should hope not. Not only did he miss two league matches, but he also missed our entire League Cup run this season. What's your prediction for the score this weekened, Valley?
As someone asked on a different thread here is injury situation according to Physio Room: View attachment 78039 So looks like Dummett isn't available but Yedlin and Lejeune might be. Gayle still homesick for London. Add Mitro with a recurring mental injury that means he will probably miss 3 out of every 4 games this season and Mbemba out till Christmas and we are already starting to see some squad gaps. Hopefully we can fill these before the end of the transfer window.................... oh wait.
Mbemba now out for 1-3 months. It's okay though. Those defenders we signed should be able to step up now as cover.....
I think we could definitely nick this. Our defence has been reasonably solid so far, Swansea's has been poor and we have shown some attacking intent. Swansea 0-2 Newcastle
