Ivor/Lib: "Worrying start to our league season" No offence guys, but is it really? Perhaps I'm taking your comment out of context. A predictable start no doubt in the sense that we lost to the Champions. We played well though and we've done really well in Europe so let's be more ready to judge after 5 or so games. If we get poor results against teams in 'our league' then fair enough, that's worrying.
No "offence" taken,Knackered, but I guess I am a worrier by nature. I tend to feel pessimistic this time of the season. However, two or three stunning wins will soon remedy that.
Similarly, no offence, Knack. Actually, what I meant was the fact that we've got some tough fixtures at the start, not the results. Obviously we've been great in Europe and, in terms of team play, the result against United was a travesty. We weren't so much beaten by a team but rather by the individual brilliance of one particular performer - aided and abetted by some rank amateur defending. I agree that the acid test will come when we play teams around and below our finishing position last season.
A favour please guys! I'm after a list of every Swansea City Player of the Year Winner since they were first given out. These awards are usually organised by the official supporters club. I'd like to add this page to my web site. Here's one I've already published for Chelsea as an example... Chelsea FC Player of the Year 1967 - 2013 ...Many thanks for any assistance you can provide.
What has been on my mind for some time, is the fact that we finished so poor last season, and just for the record, since the Wembley Cup day final, we have only won 2 games!!! so add that to the poor defencive display against Manu last week, and it's no wonder the bookies have Spurs as favourites for this one, we'll just have to wait for Williams to decide to pull his finger out!..............
Wigan, den Haag, some trivial dutch teams, Reading, Yeovil, Exeter, Malmo, Petrolul...that's about 10. (But I know what you mean).
The bookies have Spurs as favorites because they have better players man for man and will almost certainly finish top 4 this season. The Man U result was harsh on us after a decent display overall. As I've said before if we had defenders who didn't make mistakes they'd be worth £30M apiece. The trick is doing well against the opposition in 'our league' - those who will be about 7th down - and I don't put Spurs in that category. You can only beat what's in front of you and in years gone by we'd have screwed up some of the games we've had against lesser opposition (Havant ring a bell?) so I think we've done remarkably well so far. Malmo were a decent team and we made them look very ordinary. Ploiesti weren't as good but had already put out an Eredevisie outfit (Vitesse) so we're doing fine even if we lose tomorrow, which I expect us to do.
