Following their hard fought, but well deserved 1-0 victory away to Preston at Deepdale, next up for Steve Cooper’s Swansea squad is a home fixture against Birmingham City.

Last Saturday, Morgan Gibbs-White scored on his league debut to give the Swans victory at Preston North End in their opening game of the Championship season.

Swansea shaded a scrappy first half as another new signing, Jamal Lowe, had a couple of half-chances.

Jake Bidwell had a goal (harshly?) disallowed for the visitors a minute after the restart before Gibbs-White, on loan from Wolves, tapped in from man of the match Bidwell's cross.

Preston's best effort in a flat display was Brad Potts' rebound over the bar.

On the same day, Aitor Karanka made a winning Championship start to his reign as Birmingham City boss with victory over last season's losing play-off finalists Brentford.

Jeremie Bela scored the only goal, neatly flicking in a near-post header from Ivan Sanchez's whipped corner eight minutes before the break.

Birmingham, who also beat the Bees on the opening day last season, were impressive in the first half, with Bela earlier forcing a fine diving save from Luke Daniels with a shot from the edge of the box, while Jon Toral saw an effort blocked behind.

The Swans have played Birmingham on 37 previous occasions, winning 10, losing 18, with 9 drawn matches. In the corresponding fixture last season, the Swabs ran out comfortable 3-0 winners in front of 17,277 spectators thanks to goals from Naughton, Celina and Baston :

Turning to Saturday, I think that Cooper will keep the same starting XI and I think that they will be too strong for Birmingham and will run out comfortable 2-0 winners

 

I can see us conceding one but I think we will get a couple so it’s 2-1 for me

We had a good win last time out and if the players are as confident as SC seems we should have another notch on the board. Going for 3 nil and in the automatic places
