    Competition - Sky Bet Championship
    Venue - Swansea.com Stadium
    Date - 2 January 2023
    Kick off - 3:00pm

Following their emphatic and somewhat surprising 4-0 thumping of Watford, next up for Russell Martin’s Swansea squad is the daunting prospect of a home fixture against promotion hopefuls - and Championship leaders - Burnley.

On Friday evening, the Swans ended their eight-game winless streak in style as Joel Piroe struck twice in a 4-0 thrashing of Watford.

Piroe drilled low into the far corner before Liam Cullen swept in his third goal in three games.

Piroe then guided in from 20 yards before Joel Latibeaudiere's far-post effort secured a timely Swansea win.

The Swans jumped to 12th in the Championship, while Watford stay fifth after back-to-back defeats.

The same evening, Vincent Kompany's Burnley made it five straight league wins as they scraped to a narrow victory at Alex Neil's fiery Stoke to climb three points clear at the top of the Championship again.

Josh Cullen's scrappy close-range strike on 60 minutes - the summer signing from Anderlecht's first goal for the club - proved the difference between two well-matched sides.

The in-form Clarets were given one of their toughest tests of the season before restoring their three-point cushion over second-placed Sheffield United.

Kompany's Clarets and the Blades have broken away from the chasing pack, with Burnley having opened up a 14-point gap on third-placed Blackburn Rovers - automatic promotion is looking a certainty for the Lancastrians.

The Swans have played Burnley on 49 occasions, winning 17, losing 19 and drawn 13.

The teams last met in Swansea in a PL match in February 2018 when the Swans ran out deserved 1-0 winners thanks to a late goal by Ki Sung-Yueng:

Whilst the Swans will no doubt be buoyed by the victory over Watford, Burnley are probably the best team in the Championship and, it must not be forgotten, thrashed the Swans 4-0 at Turf Moor earlier in the campaign.

As such, I think that Burnley will run out comfortable 1-3 winners.

    Hope I’m wrong <cheers>

    Happy New Year <cracker>

Happy New Year to all you Jack bastards.

Looking ahead to the Burnley game I think we will give them a much better game than the one at Turf Moor (not difficult). So it's a 1-1 for me

I’m starting 2023 in a positive optimistic mood, so going with a 2-1 Swans win. :)

Swansea City defender Brandon Cooper has joined Forest Green Rovers on loan for the remainder of the season, subject to international clearance.

The 22-year-old centre-half links up with Ian Burchnall’s side as they look to avoid relegation from League One following their promotion last term.

It is the fourth loan spell of Cooper’s career, with the Wales Under-21 international having previously had spells with Yeovil Town, Newport County and Swindon Town.

Bridgend-born Cooper has been with the Swans since the age of six, progressing through the ranks all the way to the senior side.

He was handed his first-team bow by Graham Potter in the Carabao Cup clash against Crystal Palace in August 2018, and went on to feature in an FA Cup tie against QPR the following campaign.

Back in with a sniff. If we cut out all the crap (how many times do we say that?) we'd be the better team.

The control and cutting edge we had first half wasn't there second, apart from a few good moments. Don't think the subs helped. They strangled the game second half. Stupid mistakes have cost us yet again.

Another good performance for me, saw the desire again to win, yes we lost, but then our keeper should have done better for the second, we had plenty of chances to take a point, but we're not clinical enough, both Joe Allen, and Olie Cooper were outstanding.....<ok>

Back from the game for around an hour and an half, and had a chance to reflect on the match.

Our first half performance was pretty decent against the best team in the Championship.

Great free-kick by them to score the first, and whilst I agree with both Dai and Phil that Benda should have done better - much better - with their second, the goal emanated from Manning’s sloppy/missed tackle….

The fight back up until half time was heartening, very heartening, and with a bit of luck, we could have been level at the break.

As for the second 45, my mate and I (plus the guys around us) thought that we were extremely disappointing - in all honesty, we didn’t look like scoring, whilst Rodrigues missed a sitter for them.

We were all dumbfounded when Russ substituted Joey (easily our MoM up until that point) and Fulton (nearly as good as Joe today) together and brought on Cundle and Ntcham - we feared that their removal would cede what control we had in midfield …. unfortunately, we were proved correct.

Cundle did very little, Ntcham made a couple of missed passes, and decided not to shoot when he could have …. then shot a few minutes later from a worse position <doh>

Our bench is pretty piss poor - Paterson and Obafemi could have been decent options, but I understand why they were not there …

Overall, yet again, we lacked pace and width.
