So Breezey, by your logic we shouldn't be allowed to use adjectives to describe anyone? Is it therefore offensive for someone of Afro Caribean origin to describe, for instance, David Beckham as a white English footballer of average height?

Probably not but that's where this racism thing falls apart.

That would depend on if it was needed to reference something else you said in your comment , not just out of the blue

I was one of a hundred white students ( navy brats ) bused 30 miles to go to high school with a thousand Black students in a huge Black community in the late 60's in Nova Scotia . I know all about where the edge of racism lies .

Fair point Breezey. All of this shows just how mad this world has gone. Most of us now live and work in multi racial societies. It is unfortunate that many people use the race card for personal gain when remarks are not intended to be offensive and are just "getting on with living together" including banter and humour.

I am not suggesting for one moment that you are gaining anything personal from this other than piling more crap onto JH. It appears that is water off a duck's back (with apologies to all ducks everywhere).

When I make my statement about high school , " Black & White "references are needed to describe the situation involved ... not the case with Johns remark

What's that Hughes , excuse #43 , believe me , I've heard them all . You seemed to remember his name alright referencing his little problem at Southampton . That's a convenient memory you have there

I will say this again, JH's comment was NOT racist. Poorly constructed? Maybe.
Cracker whether adjectives and how someone chooses to use them to get their point across is up to them. Musty accused JH of racism, whereas you're complaining about the structure and use of adjectives used in JHs thread.
Musty was wrong to make the accusation as clearly the statement is not racist. Inflammatory? Probably.

Sorry to most posters here , racism is near & dear to me from my upbringing . It's to easy to hide behind " What was meant " when most times it's so simple to see . If Hughes called every player a " Big white guy " " A small Black guy " etc , then I'd say ok . I would have said nothing here if it was just john shooting his comments from the hip , but when some started defending him ...... Had a massive amount of black friends growing up , wonderful guys

Cracker, no one was defending JH. I pointed out the comment was not racist. I abhor racists and racism but on the same token I will not have anyone falsely accused of racism either.
    Some examples:
little black guy - not racist
    little black bastard - racist
little welsh man - not racist
    little welsh bastard - racist

We all know JH and his turn of phrase, you may not like what is written, but honestly, does it amount to a racist comment? Whether or not he could have chosen a name or used a better suited adjective is open to debate.

how laughable that people have got to the stage that purely stating a players black means that you are now called a racist!

grow up and leave your politically correct rubbish to yourself..

(that said, i think the fact the remark was made by JH has alot to do with it)

If you guys want to pretend this happened because it was Hughes , fill your boots , but nothing could be farther from the truth . His statement was repulsive as it would have been by anyone saying it ... simple . You guys trying to put it as nothing worries me a bit though

i'd be the first to remove anything if it was racist, but your accusation stinks of political correctness gone mad (as i said JH posting it is probably the root of it), you seem the sort of person who would complain about len goodman calling another panellist a silly sod on strictly...
