Is there actually a release clause? If so, there won't much we can do unless Taylor wants to stay, which he might but if he does go we will still have cover for left back in Tate, and Jazz always looked pretty good at fullback, Bristol away for an example. And as stated, we could find someone with the £1m to replace him. Hope he doesn't leave though.
There is no release caluse. If there was, the offer would not be an offer, it would be payment for his services. You cannot decline any sum given if it reaches said clause. Therefore, if there is a £1million clause and Newcastle tabled that bid, they have every right to talk with Taylor. As it stands, Taylor is on a break, and Huw has stated to the press that there has been an offer made, but is yet to be accepted/rejected. Taylor isn't going anywhere - Not if he has any sense.
http://www.thisissouthwales.co.uk/Swansea-City-ante-cash-Taylor/story-12731688-detail/story.html ... apparently there is no release clause, but an automatic permission to talk clause. We still get to set the price and determine whether or not we wish to accept the transfer. So I say we sit tight, let Taylor and his agent have their moment and then get down to business for next season with Taylor competing for left back. This could all be a ploy to renegoiate the existing contract and get a wage boost. I am sure Huw will sort this one out.
Would be gutted to see Neil leaving as he really is one for the future. I've got a feeling that Neil wants to talk to them not because he wants to get away from Swansea, but more just to see what they have to say and weigh up his options. Remember that he became a dad this past season and that will be playing on his mind that he wants to secure the future for his family. A move to Newcastle on big wages would be ideal, even if he wasn't playing first team football, in that respect. It depends where Neil's head is at - if he wants to play first team football on a regular basis, and if he wants to further his career with the Welsh national side, then he should be staying with us. If it's a family/money decision, he'll go. Huw needs to sit down with Neil, point out to him all the pros and cons of the possible move and let Neil decide. The guy has great potential, but due to the relatively short amount of time he's been here, he's not made himself irreplaceable yet. But one thing is for sure, moving up to Newcastle is a bloody long way away! I wouldn't want to go up there!
i think taylor needs to tread very carefully here, he is going to p!ss off alot of the jack faithfull if this drags on! first and formost though the truth about the deal is that he can only TALK to a club if they lodge a £1 m pound bid, that is all ,there is nothing in his contract that says he can leave if a certain offer is made ,thats been reported wrong. my view is that the guy should be loyal to us for giving him a chance when nobody else would, i didnt see any clubs knocking down doors to get him when he was playing in the conference ,and he was playing at that level for a reason, that reason is he is not the finished article what so ever, in fact i rate jazz and alfei as better prospects and i feel he has been slighty fortunate to cement a place in the team , he has talent of course and is a fine prospect but he is also nothing special yet! if he feels he owes the club nothing then thats up to him of course, but he is succesful BECAUSE he plays in our side not in spite of playing in our side,i beleive that if the likes of jazz/alfei had been given 30 odd games in that position then they too would have had a good season. if he goes its no great loss IMO , but i would feel that he has treated the club disrespectfully when we have improved him ,taken him from non league, got him prem football, got him international honours etc. some may say that taylor is the man responsiblr for that but i think using bessone as an example shows that its our squad that sometimes make players what they are and not the other way around!! love him to stay but if he goes good riddence ,we have better prospects coming through who would run through brick walls to have his jersey
Norway - What you've said, on the whole, is correct - if a little direct. But you haven't looked at the other side of the coin which I mentioned in my post preceding yours. He's just become a dad and he was on peanuts playing in the conference for Wrexham just one season ago. Who's to say he doesn't seriously injure himself in 3-4 years or sooner, and then he's got a girlfriend and daughter that he can't provide for. Sitting on the Newcastle bench for £10,000 a week would ensure that his family's future is secure. Now I'm not saying that Neil only has that on his mind. I'm sure that he's a very keen footballer who also wants to further his playing career both at club and international level, but you've got to look at both sides of the coin, and then strike the balance and see which side it lands on. I could not blame him for going under his circumstances, but I would love the guy to stay.
Agreed Kidderz. As long as he´s aware that the Swans gave him his break, whatever decision he makes we have to accept. You´d hope he´d realise no matter what he chooses there´ll be people who don´t agree with his decision, but the club could easily get 3mil off the Toon for him, 1 million would be a ridiculous fee.
good point kidderz fair do s . but let me remind you of richard duffy ,the third side of the coin if you like he left the swans for a big pay check/financial security ,prem football etc and look how his career ended up after just 3yrs! he now plays for exeter and im sure his wages are quite small compared to what he got for 2-3 yrs at pompey . taylor isnt going to be a poor man playing for the swans and our club also has a history of taking care of its own(bodde) RE injury etc. he has many years to develop and grow as a player , if he makes the wrong move at a young age then he is just as likely to end up on the scrap heap and waste his career, we see it all the time with young players ,how many "next big thing" type players fail at bigger clubs and end up trawling through the lower leagues ?? im sure if duffy had his time again he would have stayed at swansea and developed his game ,this ,long term makes the player better equipt to forge a longer, better, more financially rewarding playing career,ie having the skills to pay the bills! the classic hare and the tortoise situation really if its his family he is thinking about then personal development is the better route surely ,the money will look after itself then, all swans players get paid cracking money these days and the guy already won the lottery going from conference to prem league in a year! how much more does he want? he will not go poor playing for swansea city and dont forget the days of newcastle spending big money on stupid long contracts are coming to an end. easy for us to say of course ,its his life, its my view that "get rich quick" doesnt work ,remeber the guy was non league 12months ago so supreamly talented he is not,if he was then he would have been already there in the big time. some players need time to develop and hone their skills ,i dont think he would get that time at newcastle ,he might get a nice wage for a few years but where then?? ask richard duffy .
Good points of view guys, and very comprehensively covered there Norway, but in a nutshell, I don't see Taylor making any move out of Swansea, and the only reason that Toon are after him is because their boy is being poached! I think he'll stay, hell he's only just turned Pro!................ please log in to view this image
Hate to put a stop to your theory DPJ BUT: http://www.thisissouthwales.co.uk/Swansea-City-ante-cash-Taylor/story-12731688-detail/story.html It states about the being given permission to talk to a club if a certain level of bid comes in but it suggests that Everton are sniffing around, Buck is already resigned to him leaving, its just a matter of how much for and that he already has targets to replace him. Van Aanholt i like the look of
Have to agree with Norway ... Jazz did a very useful job at left back while he was there. I have not seen anything of Alfei so can't comment. I expect this to blow over soon - there's always at least one every summer who thinks bigger than he is for a moment and then realizes where his bread is best buttered ... or doesn't and not long after disappears.
