It's very easy for some Saints fans on here to forget that we arrived in the Premiership early. We are still in year 4 of our 5-year-plan and that was set as a target for a reason. This club has been rebuilt around the idea of 'sustainability meets success' and our flight through the divisions has shown that so far. How many Saints fans would have predicted that we would finish within the top 20 teams in England 4 years ago? Compared to the mess we were in back then, finishing anywhere in the Premiership (even 20th!) is an achievement! Anyway, all of this is irrelevant anyway as I think we will survive comfortably (no last-day drama) and enjoy our well deserved party at St Marys on the 19th May ahead of a Summer of building for our top table push in 2013
Teams that go down don't always get back up, Cortese might lose it and leave, Adkins could be filched by a team spotting his potential, I would have to buy a new TV having put my foot through the old one...all in all, I'd rather stay up.
We are not going to be relegated so don't waste your breath talking about it. Cortese delivers and he said we would not be relegated while he was at the club. I believe him and I believe in our manager and players so please can we have no more silly pessimism.
This has been discussed at length. Both Cortese and Nigel are on record as saying Saints won't go down whilst they are in charge. Personally I think Nigel should stay whatever happens.
It was lovely that Cortese said it, but no one can make that kind of promise unless they are Chairman at ManU. What he means is that he has faith in the system he is trying to introduce and will do all he can to deliver it....doesn't have the same ring though, does it?
I like Saint Mary, maybe we could also have a Saint Vishnu etc. to appeal more globally. Well the Championship is a fun league, as are more of the fans but you can never predict what will happen in that division.
No one could have predicted our success last season. I kept being told it was a tough league by Pompey fans...I enjoyed saying each week what a doddle it was. Didn't expect to keep on winning though. We got on a roll and just tried to make it interesting at the end. May not happen again, so, as I said, best to stay up this season.
The one truly awful thing would be if adam went. Logically its not the end of the world hes a fantastic player but we'd hopefully be able to go up if we replaced him well. However he's been so loyal and he really sums up everything i love about this club, the academy his loyalty and being the type of player whose worth the entrance fee by himself. Would be a sad day if he ever left!
