We're without three first choice defenders - Alcaraz, Figueroa and Ramis. Defensive injuries have screwed up our season like nothing else - at one time we had five out of six central defenders injured. Beausejour is out for a couple of games, maybe for the rest of the season - wing back. And we have a tiny squad, very little cover. Ben Watson - who hasn't played for six months and who is a midfielder - played as a makeshift sweeper yesterday. Caldwell has been fit for weeks. He's been dropped since the tonking from Liverpool. He'll probably have to come back, but Bobby has his own way of doing things and he may just keep Caldwell - who was a hero of last season's run-in - on the bench. The thing is, we've learned not to get terribly fazed. We play with what we've got.
There will be a few of us who remember May 1985 when Coventry had seven games to play in 22 days. Not sure of their injuries but the night we won at Chelsea and Coventry drew 0-0, they still had three to play. They knew they had to win them all and send us down which they did. It's slightly different now as all games have to played by the final day.
Rob, I read lots of threads on relegation, on lots of clubs boards, because I'm interested in what other supporters thoughts are. He's on every single one of them, for weeks, telling everyone what Wigan are going to do. Not Norwich - Wigan. Wouldn't be so bad if he either knew what he was talking about or was accurate. He's neither.
So be it. From my perspective every time I look on a thread on relegation on any board he's there. Trust me I'd rather not have to read him.
Don't then - I'm regularly reminded there is an ignore button. I don't think CT is wumming though. Personally, I like to read opinions different to my own because their strengths allow me to reconsider.
I don't think I need to use the ignore button, maybe just breathe a little longer before posting. He's not that bad, he just seems obsessed with my club! I shouldn't complain, we need all the interest we can muster.. And I have tried to engage the lad in some friendly to and fro but he doesn't bite! Anyway - good luck for the rest of the season.
To be honest again, I think most Norwich fans are looking at your results pretty obsessively. I certainly am... I'd like to return the wish of good luck, and would have done if we were safe an you could have relegated Stoke, but unfortunately I just can't...
Rob and HP. Wigan draw with Swansea. Chelsea beat Villa. City beat WBA. Arsenal draw with Wigan. Wigan beat Villa. Job done! City 41, Wigan 40 above Villa on goal difference.
As I pointed out there are now jist too many combinations to contemplate with clubs potentially as high as 11th still at risk. That is a pretty remarkable situation with just two games (three for Wigan) to go.Further analysis on Relegation Watch thread.
This is how I see it: Wigan beat swans tomoz & go level on points with us but ahead on GD. We beat WBA on sun and move onto 41points. Wigans next game is Arsenal away! They aren't getting anything there and hopefully the GD gets a bit of a work out?. Villa go to Chelsea, who won't be such an easy touch as us, so villa remain on 40 points meaning they will have to get something at Wigan on the final day to be sure, sending Wigan down, a draw wouldn't be enough for Wigan so they would be going for the win to pos send down villa or maybe Newcastle if they **** up at QPR? In short I believe that as long as we beat WBA on Sunday we could still stay up even getting bear at Man city.
We have hope but that is diminishing by the moment. Last week we were allsure we were going to beat Villa and apart from the penalty I can only remember Holt's sitter late on as another real chance. We keep assuming we are going to win but there are two other disatrous results on the cards. It is strange how we feel so positive but results don't give us cause.
If the manager doesn't go for it on Sunday, in terms of attacking set up, early (positive) substitutions, then he only has himself to blame. Last chance saloon to be positive chris We know the players can do it but whether they've gr the confidence is another thing
Don´t see anything strange about it redruth, it´s called having faith, believing, some have no faith at all, and we know who they are, while others have plenty, those who wish to keep on believing, regardless of results should be allowed to do so, without being chastised for it, because those who don´t are certainly giving full reign to their feelings at the moment. For some of us, while there´s life there´ll always be hope. And in case you were wondering I´m not pointing the finger at you, as regards chastising, but there are some, and again we know who they are, who are very loud-mouthed in their condemnation of anyone who happens to disagree with their point of view.
I think it all comes down to beating WBA. The players need to see this as a cup match - all or nothing. It's possible that Wigan could draw against Swansea and Villa and lose to Arsenal at the Emirates. Their 5 games in 15 days has to have an effect on such a small squad and that could be a factor by the time they face Villa. Lose or draw against Swansea and the Wigan nerves will be jangling. There is also the fact that ManCity's 5 games in 15 days could weaken their performance on the last day, but they have a bigger squad to work with. It's not over yet, but a lot will depend on what happens this week.
