The fact MOTD showed it from several angles, plus showed The Grand Wizard's meltdown on Sky because he refused to speak about it with the BBC, indicates one thing - even they're not going to stick up for Liverpool anymore.
Saurez apology: Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has today issued the following apology: "I have spoken with the Manager since the game at Old Trafford and I realise I got things wrong. "I've not only let him down, but also the Club and what it stands for and I'm sorry. I made a mistake and I regret what happened. "I should have shaken Patrice Evra's hand before the game and I want to apologise for my actions. "I would like to put this whole issue behind me and concentrate on playing football." Author: Liverpool FC http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/latest-news/luis-suarez-i-m-sorry
An apology from Saurez and words from the club blaming him for 'misleading them' but no sign of any action being taken against him. Probably insufficient to salvage the reputation of the Mousers....
Again, it's not really an apology, is it? What that statement - which has obviously been written for Suarez - actually says is "I'm sorry I acted like a dickhead and now have the world's media on my case!" There is nothing in that statement that shows me that Suarez is sorry for the further abuse he caused to Evra, a black player. And Queen Kenny's defence of him is completely and utterly unacceptable. I really do not care that he is trying to protect "his" player, what Suarez has done is unacceptable, and any support - any support, at all - for that player is unacceptable. As for the Queen's pop at the journalist - who was only doing his job and asking pertinent questions, that any of us (or, at least, those that have the balls) would ask - he made himself look like a complete tit and an aging old fool. I doubt he has the brain, let alone the balls, to apologise to Sky and the viewers that had to witness his hissy-fit. LFC - disgusting club. Queen Kenny - disgusting manager. Suarez - disgusting player.
From the BBC: More from Liverpool now. Reds managing director Ian Ayre has just released the following statement: "We are extremely disappointed Luis Suarez did not shake hands with Patrice Evra before yesterday's game. The player had told us beforehand that he would, but then chose not to do so. He was wrong to mislead us and wrong not to offer his hand to Patrice Evra. He has not only let himself down, but also Kenny Dalglish, his teammates and the club. It has been made absolutely clear to Luis Suarez that his behaviour was not acceptable. Luis Suarez has now apologised for his actions which was the right thing to do. However, all of us have a duty to behave in a responsible manner and we hope that he now understands what is expected of anyone representing Liverpool Football Club." Doesn't this make Dalglish's defence of him look and sound even more ridiculous. He must have known about Suarez saying he would shake hands why oh why would he defend someone who has just broken their word to you and his club.
Doubt was put in my mind, Little Luke, only because a Mouser, on a thread posted on the Mousers' board, posted a photo that showed Evra with his hand up, when shaking those that immediately preceded Suarez, and then lowered when Suarez appeared. The suggestion being, that it was Evra who withdrew his hand when Suarez appeared. However, on looking at the complete newsreel, from several different angles, it would appear that what really happened was this. Evra, on seeing Suarez, pulled his hand back, but (and crucially, in my view) not away, in a gesture that seemed to say, "So, you're going to take my hand and shake, finally, are you?" In other words, by lowering his hand, Evra was effectively making a point to Suarez, "yes we've had our differences, but are we now both here to put them behind us?" He still offered his hand. Suarez was the one who decided that, in fact, he wasn't prepared to move on. And, indeed, that is in keeping with the fact that he has never accepted that he racially abused Evra. My comment, therefore, Little Luke, was cautionary. I don't want to stand guilty of accusing anyone of bad sportsmanship if it is undeserved - and I would have apologised publicly had I thought that I'd jumped the gun. But, upon reviewing the very clear evidence, I am content that Suarez was the one at fault.
He's apologised for letting the club and his team mates down, but not to Evra for subjecting him to yet further humiliation and abuse. I'm sorry, but that statement - which has been made by the club (which has a commercial interest to protect) and not by Suarez - is not acceptable.
More from the BBC: 1541: Further to those statements from Luis Suarez and Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre, Reds boss Kenny Dalglish has also issued a statement on his club's official website: "Ian Ayre has made the Club's position absolutely clear and it is right that Luis Suarez has now apologised for what happened at Old Trafford. To be honest, I was shocked to hear that the player had not shaken hands having been told earlier in the week that he would do. But as Ian said earlier, all of us have a responsibility to represent this Club in a fit and proper manner and that applies equally to me as Liverpool manager. When I went on TV after yesterday's game I hadn't seen what had happened, but I did not conduct myself in a way befitting of a Liverpool manager during that interview and I'd like to apologise for that." Dalgish now looks a complete tosser.
That's a good start, Kenny. Now, make a point of apologising to the journalist who you tried to bully, and to the viewers whose intelligence you insulted.
What an almighty mess. From here LFC's only option is to transfer Suarez and sack KD. The apologies are from a hole that is too deep just to be able to hop out of with a couple of club statements. Liverpool's season has been blighted by actions that will not go away. This latest event confirms the worst to all those who believe Suarez's guilt. And confounds those who thought he had just made a mistake. Only a clean sweep with a new broom will wash Liverpool FC clean.
Dalglish has apologised for his post-match behaviour. Pretty straightforward and honest apology, too. http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/20876/7514130/Dalglish-sorry-for-conduct "Ian Ayre has made the club's position absolutely clear and it is right that Luis Suarez has now apologised for what happened at Old Trafford," said Dalglish. "To be honest, I was shocked to hear that the player had not shaken hands having been told earlier in the week that he would do. "But as Ian said earlier, all of us have a responsibility to represent this club in a fit and proper manner and that applies equally to me as Liverpool manager. "When I went on TV after yesterday's game I hadn't seen what had happened, but I did not conduct myself in a way befitting of a Liverpool manager during that interview and I'd like to apologise for that." Doesn't sound like Suarez is very popular at Klanfield today, does it?
Notably he still doesn't apologise to Evra as such, it sounds more like he's apologising to The Grand Wizard.
I've just been on the Mousers' board, and the vast majority of them genuinely believe that the statements from their board (who are looking only to protect their investment in the club) and Queen Kenny will be an end of the matter. Utterly pathetic! Although, sadly, predictable.
HIAG did you expect anything else? I was looking on their before the statements came out and I'm not surprised at all by their attitude.
From the BBC Liverpool's US owners and their shirt sponsor intervened over the weekend to help defuse the row between Manchester United's Patrice Evra and Liverpool's Luis Suarez . Suarez refused to shake the hand of Evra prior to the match. Suarez had recently returned from an eight-game ban after he was found guilty of racially abusing Evra. "We were very disappointed by Saturday's incident and have discussed our concerns with the club," Liverpool's shirt sponsors Standard Chartered bank said in a statement.
First Adidas ditch them, now their shirt sponsor is voicing their concerns - both of which in the aftermath of Suarez acting like an ape, I hasten to add.
