Arse covering, or playing as part of a team? Not sure the St Maximin analogy works, he'd try and take on 3 or 4 players regardless of support - rarely got his head up to look around and similarly, did little tracking back / covering his full back.
I heard sighting this in defence, but I think the real issue is that just isn't very good at either end of the pitch. The truth in my opinion and that's all is likes him too much personally and is now already deep into a point he wants to prove. Ultimately you'll never see a player like playing for any of the big clubs.
The other benefit Howe sees in Burn is that, when Trippier goes upfield, they can swap into a three at the back - he confirmed this last season when Burn was part of the joint best defence in the PL. Again however, that defence had, generally, a much better midfield in front of it
I'd agree we need a better starting LB I just don't think he's been wholly responsible for the recent issues on that side of the pitch
I don't think any player is ever the only point of blame, but he's definitely a dysfunctional cog. I actually will be surprised if Burn isn't starting every game unless injured or rested. I think he might still start next season aswel.
Howe wouldn't fancy signing him in the 1st place. I think he'll be after the like of Phillips and Maguire. This is one reason why I'm totally opposed to selling the likes of Guimaraes and Joelinton because he'll bring in the likes of Southgates mates and before we know it Nufc will be the next Everton.
I really hope that Howe plays Burn against Arsenal. Of he doesn’t and he throws Livermonto on he is showing his total stubbornness. And that’s just ****.
So in summary, Howe simply has to drop Burn because he's being way too stubborn and loyal. But not drop him right now, because that would just be sneaky, scheming and unfair. So he can't win. Whatever he does for this game, he'll be slated before a ball is even kicked. Remind me not to log on to the forum for this one.
