Does anyone have any idea how this will actually affect prices?
Sounds like it's only going to be about **** like Super Tennants, going by the article.
It's a **** idea, though. Punish poor people for wanting cheap alcohol, while subsidising MPs getting pissed? **** off.

How will it subsidise MPs when everyone is affected?

I've no idea how the reality of it works, I'd bet it doesn't make a huge difference and I doubt people will cut back because of it.

It’ll only have a limited effect, IMO.

There’ll be a plethora of ‘smugglers’ bringing the stuff in from England.

Few quid to be made there.

It's a quite simple solution. 50p minimum price per Unit, therefore cheap ****ey booze like high strength cider and fortified wines (which is generally only consumed by alkie ****s and schemies) will skyrocket in price, normal beers, will for all intents and purpose be much the same price as they were previously.

Unless the retailers use it as an excuse to keep some price difference between the stuff getting a price hike and the stuff not.

Yeah I took it that they were trying to get rid of the cheap strong stuff, wine will shoot up though as well as Tennants Super.

They are free to do that at present as there is no maximum price.

That is what I was saying yesterday.
We are going to have armies of sweaties pouring into England to bulk buy all our alcohol.
The offies in Berwick and Carlisle will be rubbing their hands together!

You do realise the people who drink this piss probably don't have cars or transport of any kind apart from maybe a stolen bike?

You can sleep safe in your bed son.

I don't think a Wallace type invasion of England is on the cards, most of the braindead ****heads who drink Buckie will simply shift to hair lacquer, white spirit or turps.

    • A 3l bottle of Frosty Jack's cider containing 22.5 units, which currently costs £3.59 in Iceland, will go up to a minimum of £11.25.
