it might be that some football watchers watch players rather than teams, like tennis players, for instance. pre-1960 the only way to see a game was live. if a mega-famous player was appearing in or near your town, you'd go see them. bobby charlton talks about that frequently in his autobiography.

incidentally, my mentality when i watched city was the same as yours - i went to watch city. the opposition was totally irrelevant to me.

Tennis is a good analogy to the Murdoch League. It's football's equivalent of Wimbledon. No real home grown talent, but a roadshow of foreign talent stealing a wage from the international circus.

i can see why some people support other teams, years ago there wasnt the coverage on tv there is these days..you can keep track on north ferriby and whitbys progress on sky sports news these days!
i didnt know hull city existed until i was 9, never saw them mentioned on the tv , didnt live near the ground and my family didnt go..
wasnt until i saw a kid at school in a shirt and asked him what it was, that i found out and started asking people to take me to watch them..
i then took an interest but already had a 4 year interest in liverpool as they where the team id seen most on the tele, i soon ****ed them off and realised local team was the way to go but can see why some people would stick to there early association.

And another point on a similar subject, I have NEVER understood why attendances will suddenley go up if we get promoted back to the Premier League. Who exactly are these 'floating fans' supporting - do they go to watch City or the opposition? It's the same with 'big games' in the league - are you going to watch City or the other team? We should get exactly the same fans for a home game against Posh or TWS.

Here's your answer. Hull has far too many of these closet LFC fans/morons.
