Yeah I love it now. Cos I'm the one who defends the indefensible when my favourite club owner does it. Allam could open a factory that runs on ground up puppies and you'd back him to the hilt saying the dogs have had an easy ride for too long. It's a business not a charity etc etc.
Ok heres the challenge. In just two words, describe what supporters can get beyond watching the team play, one or two words that embrace the whole supporter experience on a specific day, when a game is played, from the start to the finish, one or two words that cover everything from what a supporter or fan can see, hear or do. Find the word or words and I promise never to use matchday experience again, ever.
I think you're missing the point. We managed fine without a term for this for decades. It's not the choice of words anyone has an issue with. It's the fact its gained momentum as a buzzword, and seems to be all that football employees want to talk about nowadays, whereas as Evington pointed out, fans really don't give a ****. They want to support their team, some want to stand, some want to be able to get food/drink and those people don't want to miss part of the game to get it. No one wants to miss kickoff because they had the barefaced cheek to turn up only in time for the game and not in time for the whole 'matchday experience'. Hardly anyone will care whether there's people on stilts or flag wavers.
As you bring it up, this is exactly now a good chairman should be interacting with a club's fans... A message from the top - Ahead of the launch of our brand new 2017 Memberships, Hull FC Chairman Adam Pearson had these words for our supporters. When we wrote to you this time last year we had high hopes for 2016 and the last twelve months have matched our expectations and more. Our Challenge Cup victory will live long in our memory and we came so close in Super League too. To be named Club of the Year was positive recognition for the significant strides we’re making on and off the field, whilst both Lee and Danny earned richly deserved personal accolades at the Man of Steel Awards. We’re unbeaten in derby matches since last Easter, had six Dream Team representatives and claimed the proud honour of the Clive Sullivan Trophy and the Steve Prescott Cup, both of which have significant historical and emotional value to the club. It has been a year to be extremely proud of Hull FC and everyone involved - players, coaches, staff and supporters. Our aim is to go one better in 2017 and that will be helped by the addition of Josh Griffin, Jake Connor and Nick Rawsthorne, three quality signings, as well as the potential of further recruitment over the coming weeks. Over the last year, we’ve listened to extensive feedback regarding our memberships and feel we’ve created a new pricing structure that is our most flexible, accessible and cost-effective membership than ever before. Some areas of the ground are cheaper in 2017 to hopefully ensure we’re accessible for all our fans to come back, as well as some great opportunities for families and junior supporters, with memberships starting from just £50. We’ll have more flexible seating arrangements across the ground and an improved match day experience, which all provides the perfect environment for watching the reigning Challenge Cup winners from as little as £6 per match. We now feel we have a membership that is great value and open to everyone, rewards our most loyal fans and a team that we can all be very proud of. Hopefully, together, that can be the catalyst to grow our crowds and help us build on the solid foundations already set for even more success in the future. Your support is invaluable to us and we look forward to seeing you again in 2017. Thank you. Adam Pearson
Why would anyone want to use two words to describe "what supporters can get beyond watching their team play". That is what it is all about. I don't give a frig about anything else. Some twat (substitute marketing guru) might think a term justifies ridiculous amounts of money to watch a game of footy. If more people like me stood up to be counted we'd be back in the dark ages before you could say Medieval. If I recall correctly there wasn't any hot water in the east stand bogs at BP so we haven't moved on that much have we. Thanks
I think you miss the point, two words encapsulate everything that happens when a game is played rather than a whole paragraph. New words and phrases enter our language everyday. Come on PLT smile and accept the challenge, come up with an alternative.
Really? You think it's **** and everything's that's wrong with he modern game. Adam Pearson uses it, there you go.
What do you want from me? It's **** in Pearson's statement too, what's your point? Are you hoping I'll say it isn't?
I won't be attending tomorrow for a "matchday experience" - I'll be attending to "support my team". Apologies for the extra word.
