Any sport seems boring to those who understand it but don't like it and still find it boring..

Every ****ing year I have another go at trying to get to grips with this.

Every year I fail due to the stop start nature of the action, the extremely condensed pre-rehearsed phases of play and the general drawn out nature of the event.

There is a reason that this sport does not travel well, it's slow and not suited to easy informal play. It also seems to be broken up to allow tv advertising and in-stadium guzzling.

The reason Sarker has not made it bigger in the US is the closed shop vested economic interests of the indigenous sports, who have combined to attempt to keep football out

    Just sayin' like..

There's an interesting book first published in 2001 that describes and analyses the various points/angles you have posed above.
Title: "OFFSIDE: Soccer and American Exceptionalism".
    300 pages (including appendices).
by Andrei S. Markovits & Steven L. Hellerman

    Princeton University Press. (UK edition)
    ISBN 0-691-07446-x in paperback.

Can't recall if I eventually became bored reading it, but it was more interesting than watching a Superbowl that's for sure.

I agree Tex. I didn't get baseball as all until I went to some live games in Denver and in Boston and had a great day out at both.

There are some sports I don't really enjoy or get but I honestly don't feel the need to tell people who do that they're boring. Each to his own and live and let live.

It's not a sum zero game. If I like something you don't it doesn't detract from my enjoyment or visa versa.

I think it’s all on the delivery.

I “find it boring” is different to “it’s boring”

To declare or presume any sport is boring solely because you don’t understand the sport is ignorant, as is presuming somebody who finds a sport boring only does so because they don’t understand the sport.

Delivery, delivered by SCB, the Centrist.

You might want to avoid York SCB - they hang some that "Stand & Deliver"...
Maybe avoid hotel pubs in Beverley too - landlords have a habit of relaying your whereabouts to the authorities .:emoticon-0105-wink:

I stayed in a hotel/pub in Beverley about this time last year. After the night out I could hardly stand never mind deliver.

A reference to Kemps post responding to the suggestion about big titted barmaid. It was a reply to Stiff Tiger and his Driff was auto corrected to Stiff. Obviously you didn't read it. Or it was so trivial itveasn't worth remembering. Either way it doesn't seem as funny when you have to explain it. Like most quips<laugh>

Aah, the classic "I don't like it, ergo it is complete **** and you're all wrong for liking it" routine.

    Classic Castro.

If Norwich had an NFL team you'd ****ing love the sport.

A stupid comment, even by your standards, Quill.

A game played by people who don't need padding and helmets and which is played in a lot of countries, not just one where they laughingly declare the winners are World Champions? Yes I like rugby union.

Now we've come full circle in less than two pages. My work here is done.
