It's amazing what time can do for the memory. This is so easy, It's Super Kev all day long. Not only did he smash all of our records, he was a better all round player who influenced the play. He scored all sorts of goals and for how small he was, the amount of headers he won, was outstanding.
Sorry but getting Defoe meant I didn't have to watch Jody Altidore in a Sunderland shirt any more, for that reason alone Defoe wins
Maybe I'm going mad, but I don't remember Bent ever picking the ball up on the halfway line and running it to the box to score. As far as I can recall he was purely a "fox in the box" poacher, added **** all else to the team - the worst all-round player of the three by far imo.
I have had the pleasure of meeting Kev at Durham hospital as my son was born same time as his twins. Smashing lad.
Surprised at the amount of people already on the Defoe train. I'm being displaced as the weeks/months pass mind. 18 months at this rate and he replaces SKP for me but not until then.
The better striker is Defoe, unquestionably. Phillips' career goals record in both PL and Championship is barely better than JD's career goals record in just the PL. Having said that, if I was choosing between Robin Van Persie and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as my favourite, it would be no contest, the Babyfaced Assassin wipes the floor with the Dutch Master.
I think if Defoe could get the service SKP got, from all angles, we'd already be talking about him as a messiah and we wouldn't be staring at relegation either.
Agreed. A lot none Sunderland fans have that Reid team a route 1 up to Quinn knockdown to Philips team. Couldn't be further from the truth, that team could play and created chances on all fronts
I used to wonder why a Manager like Flash Arry at Spurs regularly left Bent on the Bench. Then there was the tirade after Bent missed a sitter and Arry lost it with his 'my missus would have scored that'. But the answer was obvious enough and backed up by the stats, Bent MISSED more chances than most other strikers. This upset the Arry's of this world who let it cloud their judgement. Bent could compensate for this by getting himself into the right places so that as well as missing more chances than anybody else he got more chances and what Arry never seemed to understand he SCORED more goals than most. I suppose Arry had a point in that once he lost that pace and could no longer make his own chances he was reduced to being just another striker. But with us he was as good as anything I can remember.
