He asked for far too much at the time though mate, ridiculous amounts I think it was 40k a week when Roy Keane was highest paid in world on 50k.

I thought he was sold because we were relegated and he was on 30k pw.

He forced the move mate by asking for money. We went down te year after I believe having signed Reyna as his replacement.

    I could be wrong like.

Depends what the question is. Who's the better player in their prime or who has been better for Sunderland.

Defoe's career puts super Kev's in the shadow.

Kev did far more while he was at us than Defoe has managed to date.

That said... Another year or two of staying up on Defoe's goals alone and I'd argue he's overtaken KP.

Defoe cost us jozy altidore though mate so by my reckoning that makes KP far more expensive.

Yep, sold in Aug, Summer window in 2003 after we were relegated. He only managed 6 goals playing with Flo under Wilkinson and down we went. Man what utterly damaging appointment Wilkinson was. He had more than enough time to save us.

I follow Hutch on Twitter, he's still got a lot of time for us. Unfortunately he's got a lot of time for the Mags too.

Phillips was a better all round footballer than Defoe. He was one of the best crossers of a ball we had at the time as well as the best finisher. Defoe will score goals but he is selfish - Phillips had amazing vision and would see where others were and give them the ball if they were better placed

Defoe for me. The goal he scored against Chelsea last season at the SOL was technically one of the best I have ever seen. SKP not bad though lol

Defoe has done the business everywhere he has gone.

SKP was superb at safc. But in a better team.

Im finding it impossible to give an honest answer.

I looked it up yesterday. His only full season with us the second one where we finished 7th. I recall the move was about wages but what I read didn't say. He was reported to have said uncomplimentary things about us after he left and supposedly told Trevor Sinclair not to come here. Still like the bloke though and he was great for us. We doubled what we paid for him too. That's not something we've been able to say recently.

Yes, who we paid £6m for iirc.
When Defoe matches Kev's record for us I'll vote for him.

yes you paid that much for dozy but after him showing his ability in those 2 seasons, you probably couldn't have given dozy away! You're lucky he was american so they lapped up the swap offer

Both fantastic strikers, like Rowell, gabby, and pop robson, but do you know Darren bent could have been our best striker in history if he had stayed I thought he was fantastic got the ball from the half way line and ran and ran best striker we have ever had but buggered off.

How many did Kev get I his career, and how many where in the Premier League.

I know the answers of course, and live Kev as I do, as we all do, there isn't a comparison.
