I went to a couple of games when I worked in Houston and it took me a while to realise that the only way you could figure out what was happening was to just keep your eye on the quarterback as he almost always gets the ball first, and not be distracted by everyone falling over, running in every possible direction, and then try and figure out where the ball went from the quarterback. Then watch it again on the big screen to figure it out properly.

They could reduce obesity by about 50% in the USA by making the game more continuous. They spend all the longer breaks eating at the numerous food stalls immediately behind the seating areas. It seemed like the average American family spent the 2hrs before the game barbecuing by their trucks in the car park, 2.5hrs of the 3hr game time eating at the concessions in the stadium and another hour eating when they got back to their cars.

Quarterbacks. Reminds me of this in the 80s, yep the crisp thread is more interesting

To be honest, the avatar pic is a bit out of date.

I tend to use ballistic nylon / Kevlar these days ...

I've no idea what that is .. only time I've seen fencing is in the Olympics... I'm all for hobbies it's never been one on the cards ... our school never did it that's for sure and the local authorities never send anyone to do it either.

I have a samurai sword which I used to chase away two burglars a few years ago though... it definitely gives you an edge.( bought at that shop next to the old cinema at the Metro centre) got on the bus home with a sword wrapped up an and u could see the handle lol.

How did you get into it?

Local NE coach turned up at my school and offered to run some classes for the PE Dept so thought I'd give it a try - turns out I wasn't too shabby

Made World Student Games squad in '92, then GB training squad from '94 - 2002.

Fenced at Club, Regional, National and International B level. Only missed out on A Grade Internationals, World and European Championships and Olympics.

****ed my knee up competing in France in 2013, so been out of action competitively since then, but still do some team comps for my club etc

Nah, to be fair, the main issue I had was getting consistent results - mainly due to work impacting on training etc.

Plus we actually had some bloody good fencers in men's épée at the time, including my eventual coach, a guy called Steve Paul (who was Pierce Brosnan's stunt double for the fencing in Die Another Day, Bond film)

Can't remember what it was called but they had big glass windows.. I think the owners were Indian... they sold speakers, electrical gadgets, knives, swords , disco lights, strobes, pipes and all kinds of ****... it was on the right next to a shop called sweets galore... it was essentially the John menzies end .. right opposite the bus stop... I bet loads Remember the shop.

Nah it was where the bus stop was as you entered and pizza hut next. Then the old cinema and then this mental shop was behind the escalators.

There must have been 2 because I'm 100% on this.

Your on about the small newsagents one rather than the big one

The shops at that end were probably quite successful due the the location of the cinema... when that moved that end died amd then came the success of the Internet which finished the rest of the place off.

The sweet shop deserved it.
