I can just imagine some of the people on here sat at the KC shouting "way to go Tigers" between mouthfuls of coca cola and hot dogs.
It would probably be a decent sport if the action wasn't as many stoppages, & there weren't as many advert breaks. Mind you, Association Football is becoming more corporate now. Mates were in New York last year during the Super Bowl and said it was a great atmosphere there.
Sounds like the premier league (only been won by English teams), la liga (only been won by Spanish teams), bundesliga (only been won by German teams), ligue 1 (only been won by French teams), serie a (only been won Italian teams), County Championship (only been won by English - and Welsh - teams).
Monaco have won the French league Don't mind the NFL, watch it on odd occasions but not every week. Will watch until the half time break unless it is an amazing match
I think he was referring to the fact only America plays American Rugby. It's like Baseball and the 'World Series'. Only American teams play the a tournament with the word WORLD in it's title.
Its true that the world series isnt a world turnament as it is just us and Canada. They have talked since I was a kid about getting teams in Mexico City into the MLB and have talked about getting the World Series champion and the Japanese Champion together. The Japanese league and ours are not played at the same time though which is the problem. Its hardly an American only sport like the NFL. It isnt played much in Europe or Africa but it is quite popular in South America and all over South East Asia.
That's not true though. Just the level of interest isn't the same. London used to have a team that played in a European American Football league and Hull used to have the top baseball team in the country. Just because the level of interest isn't there now doesn't mean it'll always be the case (although it probably will in American football's case). Fastest growing sport in the UK right now is supposedly Triathlon.
Baseball was actually quite popular in this country at one time , around the 1930's I think , and there were still a few teams in Hull in the 80's
The champion of the NHL is the winner of the Stanely Cup Finals. Its just us and Canada again. To my knowledge there has never been any talk of us playing any of the other champions. The KHL in Russia is the 2nd best league in hockey.
If you want to watch an American sport playoff series you really want to watch the NHL playoffs. The levels of brutality and effort put forth rivals anything else in sports. You will see far more serious hits, injuries and fights than anything you will see in the NFL for instance.
I've seen some quite amazing scraps. It certainly looks brutal. Who do you reckon will win the medals in the Winter Olympics in the Ice Hockey?
I watched the Czechs beat the Canadians (edit - actually U21s) and the Russians over Christmas but I reckon, Canada, Russia and Sweden.
Whose the reigning gold medallists? It's all about the Jamaican bobsleigh team. First time some of the Russians will have seen a black man.
Can't see them wanting to do that. They had a tournament featuring other countries recently and didn't do very well. Yanks won't want to risk a repeat as they will only watch things where Yanks win.
Have they managed to get funding then? Last I read they were on the verge of qualifying but couldn't afford the (£20k?) money to get to Sochi. Canada won the last olympic ice hockey gold.
