How you can say this yet make out that you have a better understanding than us is completely beyond me. It's attitudes like this that cause conflict all over the world.
Rubber, I believe that the Attorney General must rule on the legitimacy of any action. Northern Island was a Police Action to protect warring communities from killing each other.
The Poppy is worn to mourn the fallen of all countries, predominantly of the First World War but now encompasses all actions.
what a tragic waste of human life the first world war was,it makes me feel sick the amount of lives lost in that un for a few yards of ground
Dominic Grieve hey this fella is a middle temple dude>>>>funny old world init another one of the jobs for the boys hey>>>>one day a decision will be made for us from someone not with a private school out of touch past <yippee>
Totally agree with that absolutely appalling and I fervently believe Hague should be stripped of his titles AND his statue removed from Edinburgh Castle. In later years he tried to make amends for I believe , and if memory serves, wasn't he involved in thr creation of the Royal British Legion? ( possibly to salve his conscience?)

All wars are a tragic waste of life but thats what the armed forces are trained for..we have not started any wars in over 100+ years. but when our country requires us to go to war then we are ready, we are trying to stop a war or defend the civilian population who cant defend themselves and are being persecuted by tyrants....even at my age now i would be proud to fight and protect the innocent whoever they are...once a military man always a military man just like once a jack always a jack.....
we havnt started a war!!!>>>i hope your not serious after the iraq and afghanistan invasion........correct me if im wrong but i failed 2 see the invasion of taliban or iraqi soldiers rolling into aberdare in military vehicles dude.......maybe the kebab shops in aberdare are bases for the underground muslim brotherhood of man types..?
We don't shoot conscientious objectors to war, and we didn't in the second world war either, they were imprisoned, FACT! This is an irrelevant debate, as your all living in the past, no way would this current generation put up with the bull from the establishment to go to war ......................
The only modern wars the Anglo-American world power starts, is for oil and other valuable mineral resources, and they will legitimize it any way they can, anyone who thinks Britain and America went into the gulf war, for any other reason, is deluded! Britain and America are, and will be seen long after their gone, as kings of ambiguity and deceit. If the scum politicians of this country want to take us into another war, they can send their own bloody kids!..........
The poppy isn't a symbol of British imperialism, or at least, it shouldn't be. It's a sign that means 'never again', and red is a fitting colour. He obviously holds the community view that he's 'Irish' - but didn't hundreds of thousands of the Irish die in WW1 in arms with their Ulster comrades? It was the head of the Irish Parliamentary Party in Dublin that sent them to war so as to aid Irish home rule! Living in Ireland you must realise you also may have a very slanted view of the British army; the reality is that they would not have been in Ireland or Northern Ireland post partition without the presence of terrorists. For every shooting there's a Warrenpoint - and the army at least are held reasonably accountable (we've elected half our terrorists). I certainly hope you don't idolise lunatic religious zealots like Patrick Pearse. Your point on Britain denying Ireland its freedom by WW1 is also wrong - there was no republican movement in Ireland until the events of 1916. The main party in Ireland (Liberals) had successfully (after years of attempts) passed the Third Home Rule Bill through Parliament - it was suspended, to be enacted post-war pending a decision on Ulster. I'm no British patriot or anything but you're also underestimating the role Britain played in the war, particularly until 1941. I don't think it was out of a fear of culture loss, but a fear of its replacement by Nazism, also. Finally, if McClean doesn't want to wear it, fine - his choice. But we don't have to agree with him, or find his stance valid.
I have thought long and hard before posting my thoughts since reading Rubbers "murderers" post as I probably would have been banned and glad Gendros could be more eloquent than myself. Some good points being made by a few posters. As an ex squaddie I personally dont really care if someone wears a poppy or not or what their reasons are, its a choice after all. Remembrance is a personal thing and the use of symbols to represent that the same. As for the politics of war, well I will leave that to the politicians. I was and still am proud to have served in 2 different conflicts I had a job to do and did it to the best of my ability. As for being a murderer, well I was going to take issue with that sweeping statement of rubbers but realised that the paranoid mutterings of a druggie aren't relevant.
This is a good debate and alot of fair points Made. I beleive that respect should be given to guys who put their live on the line and who have no choice in the reasons as to why they Are There,to me it makes my respect for people who serve in the forces alot greater. They have a job to do and they do it well, very often having one hand tied behind their backs, being used as police when they Are soldiers cant be easy, we can argue about alot of things but i feel some things should be given maximum respect, many paid the maximum price for it.
agree norway, but i dont thikn thats the issue here, i think all apart from rubber (who has his own reasons which he's entitled to) have a huge level of respect for the armed forces, but as i said before for me its a different respect to those who were in the air in the battle of britain stopping this country from being invaded by the nazis. REV, you say 'It's a sign that means 'never again', and red is a fitting colour.' but here we are involved with a war, all i'm saying is that some people wont associate a poppy with peace and the end of WW1, on the contrary they will associate it will pointless bloodshed and in itself wearing a poppy does not commemorate those that died for peace, i have a poppy at this time of the year but i have worn it in the past without thinking what it actually stands for, so although some understandably will be offended, in a weird way i also respect him for doing what he believes in, not that i agree with his actions.
Sad thing about rubber and Phil, Bap is that both of them take the Queens shilling through benifits every week. They put their hands out and take the cash then constantly moan about society. What we must constantly remember for our sanity is they don't matter, the vast majority support us and the actions we have taken on their behalf. The young men and women who now serve are our countries finest and deserve our full support also and thankfully the cash is rolling in to charity's like Help for Heroes. I urge everybody to dig deep and give til it hurts!
the trouble with you guys is you dont look out of the box your in by the sounds of things>>>>>shame really cos this world could be a great place ps im sure a stab in the dark comment like me and phil take hand outs shows the lack of thinking on your behalf mr square swamp if you read my posts ive in no way shown anger with the first and second world wars but since im afraid.........our boys are being used as a private security force 2 cash in of oil rich lands and it fking stinks of genocide
gendros the queen is a sad fking part of british life so please dont go down the royalist route with me butty cos i`d wipe the fking floor with ya
