Raich Carter - way before my time but it's hard to argue with a home grown England international who won both League and FA Cup !

Monty next for me - followed by Colin Todd and Gary Rowell.

On the basis of what might have been Ritchie Pitt was an awesome cb who did his knee at an early age. I think he represented England at several levels though not full

Maybe one of this lot will make the grade..

Eleven promising young players have signed fresh contracts with Sunderland ahead of the start of the new season.

Goalkeeper Ben Wilson and defenders Louis Laing, Blair Adams, Liam Marrs and Jordan Watson have all signed new deals with the club.

Joining them are midfielders Roarie Deacon, James Armstrong and Adam Reed.

Young defenders Connor Oliver and Anthony Callaghan plus Jordan Laidler, a striker, have signed their first professional deals having made the step up from the Academy.

Meanwhile, the development squad will feature two new players after David Ferguson and Wade Joyce signed for the Black Cats following successful trials with the club.

Ferguson, a defender, was formerly with Darlington, while midfielder Wade Joyce had a spell on the books at Bury.

Jack Colbeck for me. Had an outstanding season last year and will only get better and better.
