One of the most tedious things about this board is when a thread gets derailed by turning into a series of spats about whether a particular post or poster is positive or negative in their attitude. Honestly, it's just so boring to wade through. The next most boring thing is reading claims that dissent is not allowed on the board. This is obviously wrong and unless one of the mods has deleted half your post and filled it with , then I can't see why anyone would claim this. Of course, if you post a strong opinion then you should expect a robust response, particularly if it's not in tune with the majority view of things. Finally on the tedious list is the heated argument where the participants actually agree with each other but are so worked up that they can't stop to realise this, "it's raining, no, it's heavy drizzle, no it's raining!" Not sure whether a poll would help with this.
Nice thought, but he'd already played him once since the head clash incident. There are probably several obvious and less obvious reasons why Koeman would play Maya over Cedric. I wish I knew them all so that we could have the definitive answer. Someone might ask Ronald. I wonder what he might say.? I love it if he said, because..!

*sigh* Your problem is you give simplistic responses to everything. And then when people disagree you think it is because they are so stupid they can't understand simple concepts. But in reality, people are intelligent enough to grasp that things are not as simple as you make them out to be. I doubt that Koeman expected a a dozen longballs to be played to the 5' 9" Watmore. If Yoshida was in there for tactical, it would be to guard against set pieces and ocassional random long balls...JUST IN CASE. It turned out Yoshida had little to do in that area. The major reason being Sunderland was pinned back, leaving their striker all alone and easily handled by our 2 CB's. But also, to the extent they had a few chances they thought they could take advantage of Yoshida via Watmore's speed. They tried this several times in the first half, but it didn't really work. For the most part Yoshida either took the ball away, or hassled Watmore enough to where the defense had plenty of time to get organized and the cross was weak. They really did not test our defense. Our offense controlled the entire game, even without Soares. We did not need the right flank, because we could go down the left flank with impunity. Even if Soares were playing, we STILL would have gone down the left because Bertrand is better than Soares, and they were not stopping us at all. We probably could have gone down either flank, tbh. When Tadic played on the right for a bit, he had no problems. In retrospect, it really didn't make a difference in that game who played RB.

And I wouldn't mind betting that Ronald had worked out 90% of this in advance. Benefit of hindsight maybe, but qute a few of us were speculating along these lines before the game.
Exactly.....I don't really know why it's so hard to understand. If Fonte was playing right back I'd be saying the same things. Or Ward-Prowse for example (Pochettino played Ward-Prowse at right back late in games a couple of times instead of Clyne). Or Davis, Wanyama. Whoever. No one is calling Yoshida ****. He is a good centre back. He simply should never be playing right back over Cedric. The result is irrelevant, it isn't proof Yoshida was the better selection at all. We would have kept a clean sheet with Cedric as far as I'm concerned, but been better going forward. As far as I'm concerned Cedric must have been rested, otherwise this selection is a very very odd one.
It is much easier these days than in the days of one sub. Can you imagine the histrionics over the selection of one sub for a match! I would need a hard hat to open the match day threads! (why won't my emoji paste after my text - that really is worth getting annoyed about!) Does it Ok on laptop, but won't on my phone for some reason!
We. Won. The. Game. Easily. And I think we would have won the game with Ramirez, or Martina, or Gardo, or Ryan Seager, or Jonathan Forte playing RB. And so, I don't care. Maybe Koeman had some sort of odd plan, maybe he just wanted Yoshida to get some game time, maybe Cedric looked like **** all week in practice. If nothing else, Cedric got a game's rest. At this point in time, it's about as meaningful an argument as who comes on the last 15 minutes of a 3-0 game. It doesn't matter. AT ALL. So Koeman is free to indulge his managerial whims and do whatever he thinks is best given his vastly superior knowledge of the game of football and the individual players in question. If Yoshida continues starting at RB, then maybe we have an issue. Until then, I don't care. I don't care "who is better" because we didn't need to be better. I don't care what would have happened had we played Man City, because we weren't playing Man City, we were playing Sunderland. I don't care about putting the best team out every game, because we don't need to put our best team out every game and that is a nice luxury to have, and one we should take advantage of.
