I would bet that it won't be overturned. It wasn't a totally ridiculous decision. Whatever the subtleties of it JWP bundled Defoe over right in front of goal. I think the ref will get the benefit of the doubt.
It didn't cost us the game, as we played better without Ward-Prowse. It just wasn't a red card though, and surely the authorities would recognise that.
I have only just now seen Match of the Day, at the time I gave the ref the benefit of the doubt that it was a clumsy challenge. No way it was a red card. But now seeing the slow motion, it seems that Defoe in fact fouled Ward-Prowse! lol It's amazing what slow motion can get you to believe
That's what they were saying on the stream I watched: Defoe stuck his leg in between JWP's so he had an excuse to fall over. Perhaps Defoe should have had a straight red for denying JWP a clear own-goalscoring opportunity?
Just wondering did anyone else miss the start of this game? My train from Manchester to Newcastle was delayed..Still had plenty of time but the metro to Sunderland wasn't running...Instead of having a direct bus then we had to get two buses to a ****hole called Brockley Whins and had to wait there for the metro. Missed first 15 minutes. Bad luck continued yesterday when I missed the first 15 mins of my team at home Finn Harps game as I was stuck on the bus from Dublin to Donegal. Took nearly 5 hours instead of 4. Missed this cracker as well!
