It's an old fashioned term for people of a certain age, nowt to get excited about

 

why keep saying it then,when we have no reserves its a first team squad ,try and get it right

 

I'm 58 years old ...... I call them the reserves, I call a number 9 a centre forward not a striker, I call the South Stand the 'Roker End' and an assistant referee a linesman.

Like smug said, folk get in to a habit of calling things by their old name, no biggie, if any thing 'reserves' is quicker to type than 'back up players'. We all know what they mean. It's just splitting hairs init.

I couldn't give a **** what you want to call them ....... every normal person knows they're not Poyet's first choice so he has them in reserve for matches like today.

You can call them the Starlight Express or Poyet's bumboys for all I care, I'll call them reserves.

I'll call the linesmen the linesmen not the 'assistant referees' & the reserves the reserves ........ you can call them by whatever politically correct name you wish.
