Shrewsbury make one of their longer trips of the season up to premier league Sunderland for the next round of the EFL Cup, not to be confused with the EFL Trophy! This is Shrewsbury's first game at the Stadium of Light.

Shrewsbury have Shaun Whalley injured and there might be one one changes made.

For this game Sunderland are without Vito Mannone (elbow), Seb Larsson (knee), Lee Cattermole (hernia), Billy Jones (hip), Jan Kirchhoff (hamstring), John O’Shea (groin) and Lamine Kone (back) are out. Fabio Borini is also doubtful. It sounds as if David Moyes will play a strong team so it won't be a. Easy game for Town.

Sunderland haven't had an easy start this season, losing 2-1 in both games. However they have Defoe in their squad and he is a real goal threat and our slightly sluggish defense might not cope with him.

Would have considered driving up if it was a weekend game but not for a midweek evening game. I salute the diehards making the long journey and hope the lads give you something to shout about. However, the likelihood of a strong Sunderland team (probably including Defoe who should have gone to the Euros) against ours who are still getting to know each other points to a fairly comprehensive defeat I am afraid. Come on lads , prove me wrong!
