aye we (rightly) are proud of our support but when you read something like that it brings it all home...i sometimes wonder what the likes of chelsea etc would have that would be willing to follow the team around the country after years of lower leagues, my guess would be not so many. that was an excellent effort from the plymouth fans.
How many would get nearly 30000 at home 4 seasons into the third division. There’s a handful. Us, the mags, maybe Leeds somewhere near. Who else?
The London clubs maintain their support because of TV exposure, ease of travel and the amount of tourists they pull in. In modern times us, and Newcastle, have struggled because our situation isn't the same. Newcastle were throwing tickets around like confetti to maintain numbers but they were slipping until Ashley flogged the club.
well, leeds went from being euro regulars so support had been pretty solid for years, they did well to keep it...the mags might manage a season or so but there are still many thousands of them sick to the back teeth and i wonder how many would honestly stick with them if the dreaded drop to division 3 happened...for us, it was nowt new, one bright hopeful season or two followed by many years of 'it can only get better'. as for others, they would hold on in the championship i guess but not sure how any of the big six would fare once the fairweather glory hunters move onto the next club they have supported for ever.
Tremendous read. Its pure passion from fans that make football. Even the smaller clubs that may only take 1 or 2 coaches its them fans that deserve to be winners.
Why didn't they just get in touch with the boys and girls on the waiting list and tell them what they have been waiting since 1992 to hear... a seat has opened up if you want a ticket?
"Whey, aah support that toon man burra divvent gan t'the match like. Ah sink a few in the clerb with the tranny on"
