Surely the Posh's main priority has to be the league, you certainly don't need the distractions of this Cup...it could so nearly of cost Bradford last season in L2 although it all came good in the lotteries eventually. You could always support my lot...knocked out in the first round and bottom of the league...lol...after watching eight games without a win you soon learn to laugh. Always remember it's better to be supporting a lower league team then one of so called class from the pampers league.
Can't agree with that brb. 4 years ago we nearly went out of business but without spending a fortune got back to the PL. OK we spent a lot this close season but surely that's the dream of all supporters to see their side challenging the best and trying to win a trophy.
LOL...you will not be aware lamballana but it is known with Gills supporters I hate the Prem with a vengeance. It might be Scally's dream but it is not mine and put to the test many a time. Last season attendances increased from the 5/6k mark to 10k+ all for the want of our first league two trophy in 49 years. Did I want it...I would have preferred to have taken second or third and have had MadDog not dispense with the services of our youngsters...I was livid and wrote and article called youth v experience...http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/191219-Youth-v-Experience I believe we are paying for this short sight-sightedness this season, hence why we are bottom of L1...sort of a case I told you so but that would be petulance. I love the passions of lower league and the tradition of the FA Cup is still in my heart, because it allows the influx of non-league. Scally wants a new ground...I don't...we have survived over a 100 years so why do we need to move...we are supporters, not a business. I will sum things up quiet simply...I used to know an Arsenal supporter that was just walking distance from the ground that was Highbury. Used to bang on about how good they were and his passion for his club. I asked him one day, how many games had he seen...guess the answer...none!..an armchair supporter. Joining my thoughts on 1992 and change of face for the game we so love. I don't support my team because I expect it to win a trophy, I support my team because it's in my blood.
Take your point but we will have to agree to differ brb. Of course Saints are in my blood and I would support them whatever league or non league we were in. I thoroughly enjoyed our seasons in League 1 and the Championship and enjoyed the camaraderie of the lower leagues but I want Saints to be able to compete at the top and that's the PL. As far as attending games goes not all fans can regularly attend matches for all sorts of reasons not just financial. That in my view does not make them any less of a fan.
Not sure that I suggested anywhere in my post that it does not make anyone any less of a fan. My example was a so called fan that could financially afford to watch Arsenal, had Saturday's free to watch Arsenal, lived within walking distance of Arsenal...you know where this is going. As for the Gills are we saying that supporters only find a way round financial restraints for the glory games...sad imo and why so many clubs fail. A club should be available to all of the community and reasonably priced for that to happen and that community should use the resources of that club as a Saturday afternoon pastime...not in seek of glory that we seem to breed into our kids. The millionaire and billionaire's playground is a dangerous place...the bubble will burst one day. To the life of me how is any player in this world worth a 100 million euros?...in the same way as how is Gazzaniga worth the sort of money we probably received for him...we got him for free and there is many more out there if clubs look beyond the sale of the pound sign.
I love seeing my team play against some of the best players in the world, don't get me wrong, but I also miss the honesty of the lower leagues. When we were in league 1, the supporters and the football seemed to be more down to earth and honest, not, as brb says, some deluded fans' viewpoint. The diving etc that players seem to be more interested in doing, seems to happen a lot more in the PL than it did in League 1. I guess that's because there is so much money in football now. Am pleased with the way money dictates kick off times etc? NO Am I pleased that my team is not in danger of going bust? YES Am I worried that if things go tits up, would we ever go back to where we were in League 1? YES Whatever happens though, I will remain a Norwich fan and supporter. As brb says, it's in the blood.
Yes, agree Maestro...although had to check my own interpretation of grammar twice on your post...thought you was calling me deluded there for a minute...lol Many higher league clubs get taught a lesson when they come down to the the lower leagues and play my little pub side...just ask Leeds. I'd rather have those occasions and tormenting the higher leagues than be part of them. As for the Man U's of this world, just wish they would all p off to some European League and do us all a favour, hopefully drowning on some route across the channel. As for my little pub team, I'll be here/there until I die. Come win, lose, draw it matters not to me, yes, I'll have my moan at manager tactics and player abilities that is all part and parcel of the course....but as Maestro well knows he'd rather be in league one, player proper teams, with proper supporters, than those up above.
I'm with brb on this one .... I love being part of the few fans who brave the cold wet miserable Tues nights in l2 watching our lads or watching the reserves with 100 or so others who turn up I just love the Posh
I assume you were referring to Gareth Bale when you mentioned whether any player was worth €100 million brb. The problem there is clubs like Barcelona, Real Madrid can afford to spend that kind of money and not worry because they are so well supported. In Bale's case Madrid have just about recouped their outlay in the increased merchandise sales already which will only increase. Clubs like ours with a tiny fan base by comparison have no chance of competing with them and have to rely on getting in and developing young players to sell on for a profit. Our Chairman has put a fair bit of his own money into the club, but we are now reaping the rewards from our young, hungry player/youth player policy with Aaron Mclean, CMS, Paul Taylor, Russell Martin, Ryan Bennett, George Boyd and Dwight Gayle all moving on to bigger clubs and providing a handsome return on the investment as well entertaining the fans and helping us to more than one promotion. No doubt Lee Tomlin, Tommy Rowe, Britt Assombalonga and Jack Payne will be the next, they are all very good players at this level and capable of playing higher We currently have 2 former youth team members playing regularly in the 1st team, with 5 more very close (either on the bench or out on loan to gain experience) experience) so the future at Posh is looking quite good.
OPP - don't know that much about your chairman but like what I've seen. Certainly appears more transparent than most chairman that I can be bothered to listen too. Maybe our Scally could learn a thing or two about transparency...huh, or maybe not.
