I hope their mums send them out with nice clean, freshly ironed hankies and not dirty old crumpled things smattered with snot. If the eyes of the world are upon us we need to show them we're organised and serious.
Mind games from pardiola : Alan Pardew has piled the pressure on new Sunderland boss Gus Poyet by insisting the Uruguayan is not experienced enough to cope with the North East derby. The Newcastle manager insisted he is a fan of the 45-year-old, but doubts the former Brighton boss knows what he has let himself in for by taking charge of the relegation threatened Black Cats. ‘Gus will find it difficult there,’ said Pardew. ‘The side that he’s managing need a bit of maintenance. They need their confidence building up. ‘That first derby will be a shock to him. He might think he’s ready for it but it will be a shock.’ Sunderland travel to Swansea City this weekend before Poyet’s first game at the Stadium of Light is eight days later against arch-rivals Newcastle. And Pardew believes the fact the hosts, who have picked up just one point from their seven games this season, will be desperate for victory can only play into his team’s hands. ‘Sunderland will be asked to take risks against us and there’s a big gain in that, but there’s also a big downside and that’s what we want to capitalise on. ‘Nationally it’s an important game but locally, between the two cities, it’s huge. Every debate, everything on the radio, every Tweet will be about it. ‘That week (derby week) it goes mad, there’s all sorts of rumours put out, all sorts of stuff going on and it makes it really, difficult.’ Last season Steven Taylor made the headlines when he insisted that not a single Sunderland player would be able to get in the Newcastle team, a comment that came back to haunt the Toon defender after Paolo Di Canio’s side ran out 3-0 winners at St James’ Park last April. And Pardew admits he will be hoping for a quiet week in the build-up to this season’s first derby as the league table will make the clash big enough already. ‘The press are looking for an angle, a quote,’ he added. ‘Last year Steven made a silly quote and that got really brought out into the open, and made into a massive story. ‘It’s that sort of thing: you wake up in the morning and look at your phone and think ‘Oh god, here we go – someone’s make a rick’ and it makes it even more pressurised.’ MORE: Alan Pardew admits Newcastle owner Mike Ashley can make the wrong calls when he gets ‘confused and upset’ http://metro.co.uk/2013/10/14/alan-...s-poyet-over-huge-derby-day-pressure-4145573/
Strange one mate. I technically know what a hanky is, yet have never owned nor carried one. Even the hanky on my wedding photo, in my top pocket, was a fake piece of card with cloth clipped to the top. He may need hankies up amongst the unwashed more than us mind. As they do do a hell of a lot of weeping, moaning and snivelling!
Might be something in this. The mags next set of fixtures is just as bad as our start. If we can pick up a couple of wins (the derby would be nice) the cat would certainly be among the pigeons.
You're right mate, I can't remember what they are but thought 'ouch' when I last looked. The team we have now is better than the one that won 3-0 and they have some very dodgy games. I think this is why they're being so quiet.
All of his comments applied equally to Di Canio ........ and look what happened there And complaining that a quote from WWYWD was 'brought into the open' despite it being a direct quote to a national newspaper. What a ****ing idiotic specimen!

Would still expect 6 points at home from them. Both winnable. The others? bluddy hard going there mind. Do well to get much from them.
