I believe he is normally a championship ref as well. Couldnt understand some of his drop ball decisions.

I listened on talkSPORT and it sounded exactly that. Lots of nice football but few clear chances for them. As soon as we stepped up we created hitting the bar, post and getting the ball in the right place. Another very good win. And a clean sheet. What was the craic with the backpass?

The backpass was a total cock up. The defender should have smashed the ball into row z and McLaughlin was a total bellend for picking it up instead of hoofing it.

They pressed us 1st half without actually doing anything in the final third.
PP obviously gave our lads a decent pep talk at HT and they came out of the blocks 2nd half. Should have been 2-0 up before we got the winner.

    I totally agree ...

    ... and completely disagree <laugh>

The defender's first thought is to get the ball away from the attacker without kicking it into the net.

I don't think he expected the keeper to pick it up.

So, for me, that absolves the defender of all blame.

However, I don't believe the keeper thought the defender was doing anything but taking the ball away from the attacker.

So, in his mind, it's just a loose ball he's entitled to pick up, like any other.

    Case closed ;)

If the referee had waved play on I doubt Ipswich would've complained too much tbh.

I didn't think it was a pass back at the time it just came off his foot and happened to roll towards McLaughlin.

I think the ref just wanted his big moment in the limelight, once a-bloody-gain.

It’s on the highlights on the Safc site. I don’t blame Flanagan but if you’re not sure you just boot it as a keeper!!! Agree it was more a defender getting back and toeing the ball away from the attacker mind. Don’t see how that could be classed as an intentional back pass

This was my take on it as well. I have saw this happen loads of times and this is the first time I have saw it given as a back pass.

I gave my opinion based on one viewing in real time yesterday. After seeing the highlights posted on here earlier today I may have been just a tad unfair. Just a tad though :emoticon-0111-blush
