You literally quoted my message that was in response to someone criticising his character. Or do you not read the full post when you reply to try to correct someone? Move the **** on.
I replied to a post about the football. If I got the Context wrong then I stand corrected but we agree on more than we disagree on mostly so can't we just kill the aggro and just get on for a bit?
I'm sure there were a few tweaks and I agree that Pelkas certainly helped but I still don't think he's the answer. Slater's becoming an interesting one. I don't think him alongside Seri works and I thought he struggled at times today. But he makes things happen and 5 goals and 4 assists for the season are impressive and his finish today was top. Tufan's also turning into a player who you could see moving on to one who's becoming integral. I quite like him in the false 9, his fitness keeps getting better and we all know how good he is technically. Adama has been the link though, he's so good and seems to create chance every game.
If we could have match-sharp and firing Oscar, Ali, Tetteh, Pelkas, Tufan, Traore - more recently Connolly also fit for any run of games the season would be a different story. We had end product today but that's come from a foundation of games where we didn't quite. We've stuck one up the bum of a 40k stadium of ****e today - and they don't need subsidised prices to reach that crowd either and I ****ing loved it.
I don't think we'd have seen all that much of Oscar if Tetteh was fit for the season. Some of the interplay was fantastic today in the forward areas and Oscar just isn't capable of that. If you remove the purple patch at the start of the season, he's got 6 in 29 or 1 in his last 11. For someone who's meant to offer goals that's just nowhere near good enough. Pelkas has been a real disappointment. I was really excited when he was brought in as he looked a top player, but it just hasn't quite worked out. He probably doesn't suit the English game but it's a shame nonetheless
Don't disagree about Oscar and it makes me a bit concerned about which of our assets have actually appreciated in value over the past 12 months. Tufan maybe? Greaves? Outside that not sure we'd get much of a return.
Obviously we have to remember there’s 6 games left to play so some of these stats will change for better or worse. 2021/2022 Season Goals For: 41 (0.89) per game Goals Against: 54 (1.17) per game xG: 49.5, xGA: 66.8, Diff: -17.3 Under performed scoring goals, more goals should’ve been scored. Over performed defensively, more goals should’ve been conceded. Home Form: 7 W | 4 D | 12 L | 1.09 PPG Away Form: 7 W | 5 D | 11 L | 1.13 PPG Overall: 14 W | 9 D | 23 L | 1.11 PPG 2022/2023 Season Goals For: 47 (1.18) per game Goals Against: 57 (1.43) per game xG: 41.9, xGA: 53.2, Diff: -11.3 Over performed scoring goals, less goals should’ve been scored. Underperformed defensively, more goals conceded than expected. Home Form: 7 W | 5 D | 8 L | 1.30 PPG Away Form: 5 W | 8 D | 7 L | 1.15 PPG Overall: 12 W |13 D | 15 L | 1.23 PPG Initial conclusions; This season we’ve conceded 3 more goals than last season with 6 games left to play. This season we have scored 6 more goals than last season with 6 games left to play. This season we have less expected goals than last season. Having a more clinical striker last season would’ve most likely resulted in more goals scored than this season. We are over performing this season, most likely due to Oscar’s purple patch. Last seasons away form is nearly identical in terms of points per game. This season we have less away wins than last season, with 3 away games left to play. Both seasons we have a 30% win rate overall. (Home+Away) This season we have 5% more wins at home than last season. This season we have 5% less wins away than last season. This season we have gained 17.5% more points per game at home than last season. We are conceding more goals at home this season compared to last season. We are keeping less clean sheets this season than last season. We are in possession of the ball 5% more than last season. Overall there isn’t much difference, we were better at certain things last season, and vice versa. It’s a bit worrying considering the amount spent on transfers, and the quality of the squad compared to last season however we have to take into account Liam hasn’t had a full season yet so it’s unfair to judge him personally, this is more of a comparison of the teams performance. Hopefully we see a massive improvement next season.
I think we'd struggle to get much for Oscar at all considering his wages and I do think it's crucial he's moved on as I don't like the idea of the highest earners not being key players. I don't think he'll play much next year. Players have gone up in value. Greaves has shot up, Slater has too and I think Jones and McLoughlin would be worth a decent chunk now. It wasn't like we spent a fortune on transfer fees last summer and the only real bust is Sinik. I still find it a bit odd that we moved him on when he looked lively at times and we don't have any other wingers. I don't think Ebiowei is any better really
I suppose I'm mainly thinking of the players we bought. As I recall you saying that all you need is 1-2 of them appreciating to cover the spend, and I just don't see that having happened. We did spend a lot on the transfers last summer, in wages and fees.
We did certainly spend on wages and it probably hasn't worked out ideally but I'd say we're on about par. Traore is a £5m+ player as long as he's robust (but he's getting through 90 mins no problem), I think Tetteh can be too he's just had a bit of bad luck. Now Tufan is fit (it only took till March), he's starting to look like a proper player. Last summer wasn't amazing but it was a learning curve and I think this summer will be better. Players like Connolly are gems who can be picked up for modest fees and can fly up in value next season. I was really hoping we'd get Konrad in Jan as he looked like another one
As acknowledged last summer though, to manage with FFP we basically needed to be getting a good return from signings each summer to continue to fund investment year on year. The theory being we were starting out with a low base, we were bringing in a lot of expensive players, and then by then selling those year on year we could continue to progress up. I just don't see that from last summer, which puts us in a bad position if we have another poor summer. Hopefully with Rosenior having more of a say that won't be the case though but we'll see.
It's certainly ideal and Greaves will probably be that one this year. But we can wheel and deal too, binning off Pelkas and Oscar should free up £3m a year and then Woods & Fig would free up £1.5m (maybe a touch less). That does give you a decent amount of wiggle room
I also think it would be a massive shame if we cash in on Greaves. With KLP going last summer and Fleming pushed to the outer, it really feels like we're gutting the soul out of the club and replacing them with faceless replacements.
Both players are a joy to watch and both got caught in possession from time to time, you seem to be forgetting Huddlestone always moved at the speed of a supertanker and in his second stint gave away lots of free kicks in dangerous areas and even the odd penalty. I love them both and I’m happy to forgive them the odd error for the benefit they bring to the rest of the game.
Make no mistake... Macca's performances will not have gone unnoticed since November by bigger clubs than HCAFC. Traore could be the diamond in terms of value and as for Slater multiply 50k by any realistic figure. Darnbrough earns his salary there. As for Oscar, a for Tetteh is huge step on him IMO.
Don't agree - emperor's clothes comes to mind - two windows ago, Boro came in with £5 million - no one came looking last window - there's been rumours that a couple of lower premier league teams were interested but that's probably just agents trying to generate some interest - Greaves is overrated and yesterday was a good example as he was out of position for a couple of the goals and got totally drawn in for their fourth - the best thing Rosie has done is bring in Macca and Jones for Figs and Greaves and almost overnight we stopped shipping so many goals - so I don't believe his value has shot up because he hasn't commanded the back four to deserve it - Macca on the other hand is a much better all round player
