I also think, with no evidence, that the Allams wouldn’t like a buyer to have pumped money in and got us promoted back to the PL at the first go It would have been ok selling us in the PL, but someone taking something they run that isn’t doing well and improving it to the extent that they couldn’t be classed the ‘best’ owners by the measure of PL position and cup runs would, I suspect, hurt Safer if we start again in League 1 or 2. Less chance that we can end up back in the PL
It's not always easy I agree, but whilst any player wears the famous Black n Amber I still want them to do well.
You wrote "They’re not the better team then considering the only aim is to score more goals than the opposition." Huddersfield Town are the better team because they scored more goals than the opposition and that is the only aim. You've now added a provisio. Seems you agree that a better team can be beaten by a worse team.
Some will argue as to what is playing better. Imagine Real Madrid outclassing Hall Road Rangers for 90 minutes hitting the post 300 times Hall rd's goalie hoofs the ball last minute and it goes in. 1-0. Lets say during the game NONE of their outfield players touch the ball. They are so out of their depth its unreal. Using bcc's logic that one hoof from the goalkeeper makes Hall Road the better team. No, it simply makes them the winners. Surely it would be more precice to say that the better team is one that goes about the game in a way that results will invariably go their way due to the improved passing defencive and attacking play on show. Performance is sometimes more important than the result. Losing only 1-0 and getting absolutely battered at home in the first leg of a play off game can sometimes be worse than losing 2-0 being incredibly unlucky in the process but being all over them. It sets you up for the next leg in the right frame of mind. I once walked out of Boothferry park having seen City beat Millwall 5-0 shaking my head in disbelief. Millwall were clearly the better team in the way they played the game and I reckon if that game had been replayed a hundred times we wouldn't have scored 5 again. Better at achieving results or better at filling the ground due to their entertaining play. Better at being entertaining. People have lost sight that football is only a game.
What are you on about? I haven’t added any proviso at all. Huddersfield achieved the aims of the game better than Man Utd in their match vs each other. That’s exactly what I’ve said all along. A league table - have you heard of one of them? - shows which team has achieved the aims of the game better over a season. It doesn’t show possession stats, shots on target, goal line clearances, deflections, number of saves a keeper makes... the league table enforces the EXACT point I’m making!
Erm yeah that does make them the better team. There’s only one aim in football - to score more goals than the opposition. If you think the better team hits the post 300 times - something that is not the aim of the game of football - then I’m frankly ****ing baffled.
You said the team that wins the match is the better team. Huddersfield Town beat Manchester United so they are the better team according to you.
Yes in that match, 100% they were the better team. Sometimes - and this might shock you - in certain games a team can play better than they normally do and the other team can play worse than they normally do. Jesus ****ing Christ... Go on then, I’ll flip it - in your eyes what makes a ‘better team’ in a match? Nice passing triangles? 70% possession? 25 shots off target and 15 on target that the keeper saves...? Help me out here if it’s not to achieve the one single aim of a game of football? We might as well start awarding points for artistic merit.
Over the years I've seen games where we won, but I've come away with an uneasy feeling, because we've played poorly. And the reverse, I've seen us lose, but felt confident about the games ahead, because we've played well. 'Let's hope the best team wins' is a cliche for reason.
Yep, made up by idiots why try to convince themselves that points should be awarded for nice passages of play.
I take it you don't that feeling your team is in good shape for the season ahead, despite the fact you've just seen them lose 1-0?
I really don’t know what you mean. I’ve just had the thought that the next time I play Connect 4 I’m going to make pretty coloured patterns all over the board but make sure they’re only ever in rows of 3, while the other guy sticks 4 in a vertical line then walks off.
I think your sentiment's in the right place, unfortunately I don't think most players are good enough to be entertaining.
You play Connect 4? Are you in a care home? I just mean I'd rather see us play well than win because it always means more success over the length of the season.
I think what makes one team better than another in a particular match is irrelevant, meaningless, or any other word you choose. The statement Huddersfield Town are the better team because they beat Manchester United is meaningless because its not true. The result on the day doesn't make Huddersfield Town the better team, however well they played for 90 minutes or however poorly Manchester United played.
