Sunderland host Hull City in a pre-season friendly Last time out Sunderland drew with Tranmere and Hull lost to Mansfield and also beat Scunthorpe. Bailey Wright, Jack Diamond, Aiden O’Brien and Will Grigg all played on Monday and could either be rested or could be on the subs bench for this Friday’s last pre-season friendly game against Hull City. Gooch and McGeady should be fine to return to the side but new signing Alex Pritchard is not fit yet. George Honeyman is expected to miss the start of the Championship season with an injury, he didn't feature in either of the two Hull friendlies at the weekend and won't be in the squad. Lee Johnson: "Will Alex (Pritchard) be fit - that's the million dollar question, He trained yesterday, which was his first training session post-Covid.” "His heart was good which was a relief because he had Covid and then he had a [heart] murmur so he had to go to a specialist. "He missed most of the back end of last season because of his contract situation, and when he came back he had two days training [before contracting Covid] so he was two or three weeks behind everybody.” Team Line ups Sunderland: Patterson; Neil, Wright, Doyle, Winchester; Evans, Embleton, O’Nien; McGeady, Stewart, Gooch. Subs: Burge, Flanagan, Dyce, Younger, Richardson, Taylor, Wilding, Diamond, O’Brien, Hawkes. Injured: Xhemajli, Willis, (Hume), Pritchard Hull City: Ingram, Coyle, Greaves, Jones, Smallwood, Scott, McLaughlin, Lewis-Potter, Mayer, Magennis, Arthur. Subs: Robson, Wood, Baxter, Huddlestone, Moncur, Longman, Eaves Injured: Honeyman, Elder, Wilks My two pence: As expected, a very young team lined up to face Tranmere with a few senior players. Not the best of games but I’m expecting Lee Johnson to use this game to get as close to his starting team to face Wigan on the 7th of August I said this last time but hopefully we will have a few new players confirmed this week, two full backs and a decent striker would be nice KLD I’m going for a 1-0 home win. cheers again RTB... i know he is just back training but with all the subs allowed i would like to see him get 10-15 minutes even if just to run the clock down, nowt like getting on the pitch with new team mates i think. this will be a stronger team than tranmere so we will be exppecting a better performance, grigg may well get another 45 but on recent showing (and most others) he has not a jot of interest...would think if he wanted away he would make himself look a good buy by actually putting some effort in. hull should be quite a strong side as well this close to the new season so i hope to see some of the young lads get a bit of a sterner test and see how they manage.
Nervous about this one. Would be a massive statement if we could beat these. The draw looks the banker though.
LJ said Pritchard was only at 30% fitness levels so I can't see him playing. Will Grigg - he certainly didn't break sweat on Monday - no signs of life never mind fire
It would be good to beat them but it's only a friendly - as long as we put in a decent performance I'll be happy.
I would have liked to have gone for your twopenneth prediction however given the amount of young lads and sparce signings im hoping for a draw
hope he doesn't play the wasted shirt Grigg..............(Griggs on fire) a fekking bonfire if he is still here by Nov5th that's where he needs to be
I don't think anyone, outside the club, will notice whether it's win, lose or draw TBH ... ... Hull are just another training session, be nice to win though.
2-1 home win to round things off nicely. Looking forward to getting back to see some live footy in the flesh. It's been far too long.
I've gone for the draw, but would be happy with any result as long as we're competitive, create some chances, and there's no injuries. Seeing some new faces appear in the squad would be a bonus too.
I’ll be at this so don’t give a **** what the score is just glad to be back still hope for a win tho.
Hull will remind everyone that last season we only needed to be pressed and attacked in order for us to fall apart, so I'm going for a 1 - 3 walk over
