We really need to settle now and keep the core of the team imo. There were times, yesterday, when we had a real shape and that's important. We have a good bench now so we can alter things during the game ... ... that's better than constantly changing it before.
You need a settled team in any standard of football, players get used to the formation and playing alongside the same players, Johnson seems to be able to see when changes are needed and makes subs at the right time, I thought when he changed it yesterday mind it wasn’t for the better. Hopefully now we can get a bit of consistency in our play and push on. As you say we have players on the bench now who can come on and help out, it seems we have a bit of pace there too.
Don’t want tae pi$$ on anyone’s chips, but one swallow doesn’t make a summer. The only thing that’s consistent about us is our inconsistency!! Bart
aye, one game at a time eh. If we're good/consistent enough we'll progress , but theres very little points wise splitting the top 12 teams, many of whom have games in hand on us. 3 teams below us could overtake with their games in hand. It won't be til April before we who is really in contention.
Very true, but things can change quickly in football, and we looked good yesterday with more bodies in midfield , if he sticks to this formation I think we can still do it. but a goal or two from elsewhere would help, only time will tell. OaU.

He didn’t have an above average game? Do you think saving 2 penalties in one game is the average a keeper should do in a game? Decent enough? Strange view that mate.
We're consistently hard to beat. Hull, in second, have lost 9 to our 5 and they're a team we can target. We're due to play them 4 games from the end and that could be a massive game. We have experienced players who can keep their nerve and we need to see that now.
“Eye of the beholder” isn’t it? I thought, under the pressure he was after the debacle the other night and the mistakes he’s made, he did very well. 2 penalty saves were excellent. As bad as the second penalty looked, if he didn’t do his homework and dived fully or went the other way, they score. defensively I thought we were good in the middle. Sanderson was excellent at cb. This makes a difference to a keeper. Now to get our full backs on song!! O’Nien was excellent in midfield and McGeady and wyke speak fir themselves. Was nice to see us play with confidence at home too!!
For all of those (me included) who had lost faith in our keepers: please log in to view this image - I still think Patterson is better
Should do Burge's confidence the world of good, saving one pen will do that let alone two. The whole team looked motivated and energised in a way I'd almost forgotten, it was bordering on surreal especially the way we kept on scoring the same goal. I wonder how many managers in this league and in general get their keepers to study all of the possible oppo penalty takers, maybe they all do but I suspect it's credit to Johnson for attention to detail.
When we play like that nobody in the league can come close to us. The problem is the inconsistencies against the lesser sides. We have a run of 5 fixtures coming up we should be winning the lot
Your first 4 words nailed it. If you’re in the Burge is ****e camp then you don’t see the 2 penalty saves as anything special. If young Patterson had been brought in as many on here were crying out for and he happened to save 2 pens in the game ( whether they hit his arse or his elbow ) he’d be lauded as the best keeper ever to pull on a yellow shirt for us. people only see what they want to see. I agree with all your other points re midfield, Sanderson and full backs.
I agree, but Crewe away, in particular, won't be easy. In fact, if we adopt the attitude that none of them will be easy, we will be better prepared for the challenges that lie ahead. I don't want the players settling in to a mindset that we only have to turn up to get the three points in these games.
You're dead right mate, no games are easy as Hull found out yesterday. It does make me smile when Johnson says that though, some people take it that he's making excuses. Winning in this division is more an attitude than anything else ... ... get the right one and you're flying. Yesterdays game please log in to view this image https://safc.com/video
Not forgetting too that Burton have won the last 2 games, have a bit of momentum, and seem to be a bit of bogey team for us over the last couple of years. You’re right we have to be 100% professional over the next 5. Everyone can beat anyone in this league
