Done a bit of research and it appears the 6 second rule for Goalkeepers still exists but no -one every enforces it (until yesterday). Apparently the rule is nullified if the attacking team have a player stood next to/in front of the keeper. I timed their keeper on a few occasions yesterday, on average he weas holding on to the ball for 20 seconds. I'm amazed it took the ref so long to book him
Problem was he should have acted earlier and I think he forgot to give him a yellow card or did I miss it . It was like a rerun of the Fleetwood game with them delaying coming out at half time a la Joey Barton to wind everyone up which happened all the time when he was at Fleetwood.
Spot on, he might be fit for his age but isn't sharp enough to worry defenders. In my opinion he is a waste of a wage unfortunately
It’s amazing how many people don’t know the rules there. Just expected him to blow his whistle, book him and get in with it. They were surprised when he gave an indirect free kick!!
You're right there but as far as I could gather the players yesterday were following the gameplan perfectly, the problem was that the gameplan was braindead ****e that didn't work. I can only hope that Neil took note of what happened when we played the ball on the ground and had some width in the team that didn't involve asking CBs to play on the wing while Evans covered for them.
And he is keeping a more effective player off the pitch, the two act in tandem to the detriment of the team.
Iirc I read somewhere that Crewes problem all season was they couldn't defend crosses into their box. I didn't see the game but couldn't recall Stewart getting his head to more than one cross all day. It's a bit bizarre then that both our goals came through the middle, it's a strange game football.
I thought we bought him to use as a sub. Coming on against leggy defenders. It never crossed my mind that he would be starting games.
For all Clarke played well, Crewe had done their homework on him and knew he was never going to go outside and look to cross with his left foot. Inverted wingers can be useful but not when cutting inside is all they do, especially when it just runs then into a hugely congested area. Roberts looked lovely when he came in, ut at one point second half he got the ball wide right and just dribbled across the pitch into the congested middle and we lost the ball. The game was crying out for real width, stretching Crewe's shape and crosses into the box
Hasnt got the balance of his starting eleven quite right so far imo., but he is slowly getting there, and balancing up the condition of the players as he goes along. He obviously thinks certain players will improve with game time, some do, some don,t. Slow starts are not helping and watching how he copes with this situation is key. I hope he continues to make 3 subs per game preferably before stoppage time, irrespective of the game situation. Get as many players involved as possible until the season runs its course and if we get the rub of the green, injury wise, I would fancy our chances at Wembley against anybody in this league with this squad, and a team and manager on his toes , not his heels. OaU .
I have heard a few people saying this but he does go on the outside at times often gets to the bye line before cutting the ball back. We have three exciting wide men with Roberts Clarke and Dajaku imo., all capable of scoring as well as providing, and if McGeady can add his penn'orth into the mix, that's some choice.
I agree he does go outside occasionally but why not give him a go on the right where he can drive at defenders and naturally cross with his right foot. He did this once yesterday on the right and put a beauty of a cross in but there was no one in the middle. Mix it up a bit. I understand that when he cuts in from the left like Tuesday and wants to shoot he is on his favoured foot but as I say mix it up a bit so defenders have to think a little.
When Broadhead isn’t availabile I would not be adverse to Dajaku playing centrally to support Stewart , he has pace and an eye for goal and would trouble the opposition defenders more than what Defoe is to date . What we are lacking is getting the ball forward quicker which was epitomised by how many times Stewart was caught offside , side to side and the big hoof is not working !!!
I was sure I saw the yellow cone out when the keeper stood there fur ages and he gave the free kick. Unless the ref blew his whistle and stuck his hand in the air and I thought it was the yellow card.
It is now. It changed to 10 seconds. Although I’m not sure I’ve ever seen it enforced. Even yesteryear. He has the ball and was on his feet for 22 seconds when the ref blew (I’m sad and I often count that just to see how much the opposition take the piss)
