Saw Mr Marriott with Humble Pie, the mod of the mods. Funny one that night back in 73 as Peter Frampton's Camel were the support band. Steve Marriott is probably one of the best singers/guitar players Iv'e seen and a sound lad as well. Remember Drogs from here a good while back, hence the question. Obviously a bulls eye lad..
I heard the Stones looked into getting him in to replace either Mick Taylor or Brian Jones as they felt he was the only one who could do it. Jagger stamped his mincey little feet around apparently knowing that Marriot would have made the band the Steve Marriot band. Damn shame it never happened.
Agree, when I saw Humble Pie, Dave Clem Clemson had just joined from a band called Colloseum, he was a sound lead guitarist. Steve strutted with a Telecaster and did more heavy chord work that gave the band some bite. I saw Zeppelin 4 nights later at the City Hall and RP's vocals were no where near Stevie's. Check out 'I don't need no doctor' from 73 at the Mayfair, it's on Ytube and that was the gig I was at. Simply fecking brilliant..
