We defended well with our three at the back covering the weakness in midfield. JOS to remain in the team for me, and even given another year while we work on other things. Djillibodji gets a mention as well as his cover work on the left makes me wonder if he could not become a left back and allow PvA to operate in left midfield.
Thought oshea and Djilibodji were class last night. We gave the ball away on our right midfield and they sliced through us. They're a very good side mind and, having seen them close up, still haven't changed my mind on the title. But if anyone wants to know how to play against Costa, watch John O'Shea! He loves playing against him
Thought we did alright last night as it happens especially second half. Gave away a poor goal but they didn't exactly have a load of clear cut chances, just plenty of pot shots from outside the box. Courtois has earned them a point with that worldie save at the end.
My 10 pence worth: Pickford - Pretty easy night for him all in all - no chance with a very well finished goal Defence - back 3 worked really well. O'Shea makes a big difference and Kone hardly had to break sweat (although I didn't realise how quick he was). Djilibodji is certainly looking more like the £8m defender now Midfield - still our weakest link - Kirchhoff struggles without the energy of Cattermole and/or M'Vila next to him. Borini got a good amount of minutes under his belt which was really useful - didn't look like he was blowing at the end either. Van Aanholt and Jones did OK too in their "wing back" roles - Januzaj is not what we need - he actually did OK last night at times - got the ball out of defence a couple of times to relieve a bit of pressure but he's not up for a fight Defoe - Isolated but worked his little socks off. All in all it was a decent performance and I feel a little hard done by to have not got a point from the game - only a top class save stopped that. I like the 3-5-2 / 5-3-2 type formation and it seemed to work really well. Would be the one I played against the big boys all the time personally. Chelsea are a very good side and they struggled to beat us - surely that's something we'd all have been fairly happy with (as happy as you can be with a defeat) before the game started
Highlights from last night. http://www.safc.com/news/team-news/2016/december/chelsea/highlights-v-chelsea
Don't think we'd have beaten tham at all - they were a very good side and we chased shadows for most of the game - we put them under pressure but they always had someone in space - they're better players than us is all I saw but we gave a very good account of ourselves IMO - A point would've been a fantastic result - but we can still take heart from a narrow defeat which was gained only by a great save from their keeper at the end
We had a five minute spell in the first half when the fans decided to roar the team on, and it had an immediate effect, with us winning the 50/50's and Chelsea making errors..Then it stopped..
Went to William Jameson's after the game and warned a couple of worky ticket Chelsea fans that they were skating on thin ice. and they took note and left. Me, one of my sons and a few other lads ended up cracking on with another couple of Chelsea fans who were stopping over and we ended up taking them in some of the bars and I didn't get home until about half three this morning and feel as rough as a badgers arse..Great night though..
Sounds like a cracking night fella. My son's only 12 so none of that yet for him - only anohter 6 years to wait - but my daughter is also taking a big interest now and she's only 6 ATM. She'll be 12 by then so I'll have to get the wife involved!!
There are always the odd ones mate but I have never had any bother with Chelsea fans since the late 80's. I usually find them a decent set of lads and always up for a bit of footy banter and proper beer..
I would be tempted at 30m for JP, but the move would be a gamble at this point in time, hope we do not have to make the decision tbh.
The year of the goalkeeper mate, De Gea pulled off another worldy right out of the top drawer vs Palace. The amount of points being saved by goalkeepers this season seems to be more than ever.
Proving their worth Tel. Our young Jordan making some toppers aswell. Its good to see a gk in full flight.
