    Re. McNair

The former Manchester United defender has been sidelined since last November and manager Michael O'Neill admits he is unlikely to be fit enough to start either match.

"It's important for Paddy to be involved but he will be assessed," O'Neill said.

"I spoke to (Sunderland boss) Simon Grayson and we are optimistic he will be fine.

"For Paddy to be out has been difficult for him. It's important he is with us. We don't expect him to start but hope he can be involved."

The game they're talking about is on the ninth of November so if they don't expect him to be ready to start that then it seems very unlikely he'll be starting for us in either of the next two games.

Not his natural position according to paddy McNair mate. He categorically stated only van haal played him there and he couldn’t understand why as he’d been a midfielder all through every level. As fir the Matthews Jones debate.... Be nice to get love back in

But he's played CB at every level for Man U. Borini thinks his natural position is cf, doesn't make it true, fact is the most successful youth system in history thought he was a CB, not that I'm saying he can't do a job in MF, but I think our CB problems are a lot worse than our DM problems given we've already got 4 at the club.

Here's his game history, granted not all his games position recorded.

He's looked decent in Midfield mate, sure both those goal was against QPR in the cup and he bossed the game. It's our defence the problem though and we need to try something while we wait for Jan and he has plenty of experience in the position.

You know what I was actually fairly sure I recalled him scoring them both in the cup in a sort of 3-2 game you won last October-ish. It was pre-winning any league games and offered some sort of hope so it's quite memorable.

Defence is a huge worry. The keepers haven't done themselves many favours but when the people in front of you are unpredictable it must make your job much more difficult.

That was his interview where he said he's a midfielder and SAFC see that too. I agree something needs to change but not sure what or how!! You might be right but I don't know what or how or if it's work! Guess we'll see if anything changes tomorrow

He may see himself as one, but do we need him as one when we've already got 4 DMs? I'd say we need to try something at cb and he's a definite option. Couldn't give a **** where he thinks his position is, he's obviously versatile so he should go with what's good for the team and I'm sure he'd be professional enough to do it without moaning.

Aye probably. But Cattermole is out of form and Gibson was poor the other day which leaves us with 1 central mid I'd trust to start. Having a mobile cm next to didgeridoo would give us another dimension possibly!

**** knows all in all. Maybe Rodders can play there? Be nice to see him capable of playing somewhere

Hard to say which is the more crucial position and which one McNair is better in. If both CMs are functioning then there's less pressure on the defence but on the other hand if the defence can't deal with crosses or much else then you're ****ed there too.

Personally I'd probably play him in midfield but who knows what's best. He's barely played any games for us.

I'd play Honeyman with Ndong personally, McNair has way more experience at CB than Rodders who've I given up on entirely. Is he even fit?

The all time winless home by a league team could be equalled tonight ! my god I hope not, we hold the premier consecutive defeats already, and what is the consecutive non-clean sheet record ? March was our last. We need a goal keeper in Jan etc but that might be too late, I watched both goal keepers last night in the Burnley match and they came out for every thing why can't Steel not do it and command his area. Any how every thing will either go right or wrong for us tonight so 1-0 or 0-2.

Aye, just leave Kone and JoS to it, the most lazy, slow, mistake prone, not switched on CB pairing in the league. We lose every game from a Keeper mistake and a cb mistake but lets just keep it the same and let them carry on. <ok>

Was planning on having a potter. Lass is home tonight and I've slacked on the washing up and I've got a wash in. Mays well have a hoover and dust while I'm at it. Plus I can't copy and paste sound and a short hand Secretary I am not. <laugh>

I'll see what I can do. I'll get cracking when the teams come out. :p
