Wow - might be a bit of a problem then - although it depends on how the contract is made up - i.e. basic plus bonuses which most footballers contracts are - i.e. if AJ was on £40k basic and £15k bonuses then we offer him £40k + £5k then it may change!! FIIK!
Gordon was more correct than me. If you offer less dosh then they're entitled to a free. If you offer them the same & they sign the you can sell.
Problem is if we offer them the same money and they accept, we are on a hiding to nothing with the two of them, if Sam thinks otherwise, then maybe a years contract with options to renew if we stay up might be a worth a try?
The whole squad have relegation wage clauses built into their contracts - Short made sure of this i.e. we don't do a newcastle and have players in the championship on premier league wages! It's the only way to do things really in our position as a club! If we offer them the same and they perform then they're worth every penny - but, on the other side of that, we can also recoup a lot more than we would at the end of this season
That can't apply now since the Bosnam Ruling. They're entitled to leave for free anyway. Wes Brown accepted a pay cut this very summer. He could have turned it down and left anyway as that's what the Bosnam enables.
I'm well aware of that but if the sign a new contract for the same money then the club can sell them on. Is that any clearer?
FFS! I give up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOT IF THEY'RE OUT OF ****ING CONTRACT DAFTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
No mate it confused me. Gordon's example was from a time where a fee was commanded for an out of contract player moving clubs. It doesn't make any sense to apply that rule with the Bosnam rule in place as they can leave for free anyway. Fletcher: "You've offered me less money so now I can move for free when my contract ends. SAFC: "You can leave for free at the end of your contract anyway, it's called the Bosnam ruling. If you've been offered a better deal elsewhere you're welcome to take it but this is the wage we think you're worth, take it or leave it." Of course we can offer a contract on reduced terms. It most commonly happens when ageing players stay on at this club beyond their prime like Brown did with us this season. Surely Brown extending for less proves this?
I know mate but the point I'm trying to make is if they sign for the same money then we can sell & get dosh in. Simple really.
Why didn't you just say that then And it still doesn't matter if they sign for the same money, a penny less or a penny more. Nothing changes with regards to the club being able to sell them
And mine is if they'll take a wage cut it makes them a more salable asset. Why maintain their over inflated wages when no other club is going to offer them it? It will just lead to us paying more than we should, plus they could remain on the books long term as they'll probably reject a move when a buying club won't meet the demands. It's like giving Danny Graham a new contract for the same money and trying and failing to flog him again. AJ and Fletch were 10m+ signings when that was a lot of money. They'll be top earners at the club. They haven't lived up to the fee so they haven't lived up to their wage. Offering them the same money will solve nothing imo.
Johnson a saleable asset? Nah , even on a free, found not guilty i wouldn't expect any PL teams to be in for him (maybe the 3 that come up). Unless he pulls a Vardy and starts scoring for fun, he's effectively finished in football imo. Fletcher ... not worth the risk of a new contract, unless dirt cheap.
I can't see AJ being offered a new contract. Nothing but my suspicions I know nowt but not sure SA will rate him that highly.
