    I was gutted when Sunderland sold their captain Stan Anderson to the Toon - £18,000 I think, which was quite substantial back then.
    It even made the 6 o'clock National News.

    But Stan was a true professional and skippered the toon to promotion (despite being a mackem)

    I would say that Bruce too is being professional and doing his best for Sunderland, much the same as Stokoe did in the FA Cup.

    Stokoe's best of course was not good enough in the First Division (there was no premier league back then), and Bruce's record for Sunderland in the top tier is much the better of the two.
