I hope so mate, he is a massive upgrade to what we have now. Allardyce has said he's not targeting midfielders and he's hoping for two coming in, which looks to be RB and a forward. Would love Debuchy and Ayew, but we'll probably end up with the Hartlepool right back and Shola Ameobi on a short term loan <doh>

    3HAVE YOUR SAY
Sunderland have made a late move to pip relegation rivals Aston Villa to the signing of ex-Newcastle United defender Mathieu Debuchy.

Sam Allardyce has been eager to add a right-back to his squad throughout the January transfer window, despite Sunderland already boasting three players in that position.

Sunderland have seen two approaches for Lorient's Lamine Gassama turned down by the Senegal international, who was unwilling to join a relegation-threatened club, despite his contract in France due to expire this summer.

But reports earlier today indicated that Sunderland have held talks with Arsenal over a loan move for Debuchy and the Echo understands that the France international IS firmly in the Black Cats' sights.

Debuchy joined Arsenal in a £12million move from Newcastle 18 months ago, but the 30-year-old has fallen behind Hector Bellerin in the pecking order and hasn't made a first-team appearance since November.

Villa have been in talks with Arsenal for several weeks over signing Debuchy on loan until the end of the season, yet Sunderland are aiming to hijack a move to the Premier League's basement boys.

Debuchy is keen to leave the Emirates to keep his hopes alive of being included in the France squad for the summer's European Championships by playing regular first-team football.

"Whatever happens, even if it is to return (to Arsenal) this summer and then start again, I have to go this winter. I cannot stay at Arsenal," he said earlier this month.

"As the weeks go by, we get closer to the Euros. I have to play to try to return as soon as March for the Netherlands and Russia friendlies.

"I clearly lost six months. I would have preferred to leave last summer but the coach told me that I would have my chance. Ultimately, it was not the case."

Allardyce has been on the look-out for players who need to find a new club for the remainder of this season, to ensure they don't miss out on the Euro's.

And Sunderland still have one domestic loan available to them after DeAndre Yedlin was the only player to arrive in a temporary deal from one of their Premier League rivals last summer.

Yedlin, Billy Jones and Adam Matthews are all available to Allardyce as right-back options.

But Sunderland have explored the possibility of terminating Yedlin's loan deal early in this window, while Matthews could move to the Championship before next week's deadline.

Jones looked like he'd won a competition to play on Saturday. The weakest link in a team with John O'Shea and an 89 year old Wes Brown says it all.

Delighted we are linked with a proven right back

West Ham are apparently now in for him after Jenkinson was ruled out for the season.

Is he better than Jones and Yedlin? I believe so.

In retrospect we probably shouldn't have sold him.

Better than Yedlin yes, better than Jones, fractionaly. And not forgetting they are all ****. He can't and will never be able to deal with attackers cutting in across him. As most teams use inverted forwards it will be same as before he left where forwards will continue to turn him insideout.

Stoke brought him in as their new number one. There's a reason only one season later they bring in a replacement number 1 rb meaning Bardsley has only made one league appearance this season. Because he's ****.

We need signings who'll massively improve us, not just a tiny bit. Massive no from Me. It would be a relegation signing imo. Thank **** there's been no links. But it's all about opinions.

Bet we're good enough for him now though. Now he can't even make his match day squad at Stoke. <laugh>

You lot should have taken Varela instead of Yedlin, he's 10 times the player and I reckon he'll be sold after this season is over as he's nearly 23 and he's showing no signs of pushing for a permanent first team spot.

AYEW BEAUTY: Swansea star Andre Ayew
They yesterday announced the signing of midfielder Wahbi Khazri French side Bordeaux.

The Tunisia international, 24, joins on a four-and-a-half-year contract.

Khazri is the Black Cats' fifth signing of the window after Lamine Kone, Steve Harper, Dame N'Doye and Jan Kirchhoff.

And boss Sam Allardyce isn't stopping there.

He has made Swansea’s Andre Ayew, 26, his top attacking target.

Dame N’Doye pictured training with Sunderland for the first time

Allardyce is desperate to get his man but the Welsh club are reluctant to sell to a fellow club in distress.

The Black Cats are also interested in Arsenal’s France and former Newcastle right-back Mathieu Debuchy, 30.

But Debuchy was at Villa three days ago to discuss a loan move and could be Midlands-bound.

In Sunderland’s favour, though, is their loan-fee offer to Arsenal, which so far tops Villa’s proposal.
