I always get on the wrong side of the bed fella So he's criticising us for wanting to enjoy our football then? That's even worse. But why reference the style of football back then at all if he really meant the spirit of the game we played back then? Sorry mate, don't buy it. Whichever way I look at it it's stupid comments from Gus.
Dear Brian, The idea was to press high and really have a go but I think we were a little too static and a little too safe. It wasn’t one of the nicest games to watch. I thought we started better in the second half, there was more about us and we looked more determined but then the sending off interrupted what we were trying to achieve. Jermain [Defoe] was unlucky not to score; we know what he can do and we need to do a few things better to work with him. It was important for him to get 90 minutes under his belt and he’s done that today. It was a tight game and Fulham seem to have a system of play where they play better away from home. I expect a different game when we go there for the replay. We need the players to be ready, we’ve a lot of games coming up and now we have a player who is suspended so someone will have to jump in. I would like to say that Adam Johnson will be back [for the Burnley game]; we’ll have to wait on Wes [Brown] and see what happens over the next few days. Thanks for your support, Gus Poyet
It has got to this now has it ? the supporters are causing them stress etc, bullcrap confidence is low hehe , how many other managers in the past have brought that up, nearly all. Look at the league table mate it does not lie. Fletcher was back heeling the ball to Fulham players last Saturday for some reason, Bridcutt is given the ball and looks backwards for some reason. Any player in any league can run with the ball and pass, but not here so they will have to hoof the ball into the penalty area from now on out of desperation. We have 7 winnable home games, but need another striker and 2 creative midfielders or someone who can actually pass the ball to Defoe and Fletcher near the penalty area. And why is Poyet going on about 15 years ago ?, he CAN bring in at least 3 players he better or we are doomed. And Jones in the echo today said he is looking forward to the replay, what a laugh. And never mind about Brown being fit for Saturday, just put Graham up front with Defoe and Fletch Gus.
I didn't see criticism of the fans personally - I saw a paper writing something that they want to be seen as controversial. Doesn;t really matter - I guess only Gus will know how he meant it and all we can do is speculate! Indi hit's tyhe nail on the head though!
So much wrong with this. We can't bring in players of the magnitude you are mentioning simply due to remuneration. Money will not allow it and the Chairman will not spend the stupid money required at this point for those players. It's also very difficult to integrate these players into a playing style that they aren't used to. What is the problem with Jones looking forward to the replay? Why shouldn't he? Should he say "Oh I'm not looking forward to it" simply because we all thought we should've tried harder to win? Is the confidence high? Is he wrong about that? I mean we have only failed to lose 2 games this year! There are no winnable home games. The only one that matters is the next one. Then you look at the others AS for Graham up front with Fletcher and Defoe - give me strength!! Graham up front instead of Fletcher maybe but not along with
Just wondering why he didn't tell me I was living in the past. That Email goes to every season card holder so it's to the bulk of the fans he's talking about in the press interview. The man shouldn't be let anywhere near a press conference.
Bollocks to the press, they can smell a story at the club and are stirring things up. Good cup draw tonite, beat Burnley win at Fulham ,happy days. We only need a couple of wins, all the crap from the press blows things out of proportion. Supporters arguing and booing the team only feeds this press scum. Lets get behind the team and judge Gus at the end of the season.
No matter which way I look at it it's a car crash of an interview. He's a gob ****e. He should have sat there and held his hands up, he picked a weak midfield, he should be apologising to the fans and admitting he got it wrong, not telling us we're stuck in the past, which he did do regardless of your blind defence, I read the quotes only not the ****e the press encase it in. The crowd is another matter completely, Booing is counter productive and I play no part, i'll vent on here and I won't defend those fans.
Lets compare records, these are the last 22 games before they were both sacked : Bruce: W5 D5 L12 F26 A37 Gd -11 Points 20 Position 16th O'Neill: W6 D4 L12 F27 A34 Gd -7 Points 22 Position 16th Poyet: W3 D11 L8 F19 A33 Gd -14 Points 20 Position 16th So we are harder to beat but lacking goals
Hard to beat, yes, but no improvements in points or position. So is that progress or not? Numbers say Yes AND No!!
At this moment in time I would sack him because the football is ****ing boring as paint dry. the last 4 home games we have only had 16 shots on target & two of them are championship teams. Anway I'm going to watch my Phillips & Quinn dvds because I'm so stuck in the past.
I'm living in the past too.... I've just been to the garage to fill the Tardis up !!! One thing I've noticed in 'the past'... My throat was a lot sorer at 5:45 pm every Saturday?! Can't think why???
Back in the day we had something to shout about pal. now is just like the O'Neill days zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz wake me up in may.
