Poyet is letting the club down by refusing to accommodate one of Alvarez/Giaccherini in the team. The supporters are just as equally letting the club down by not supporting the team.
No mate I do, in the grand scale of things, Sunderland are a huge team. I think all but maybe two of the top flight teams are, QPR and Hull being the two. 20 of the most in-demand jobs in all of sport.
The solution to Gus's problems are so obvious to all of us yet seem to be beyond his comprehension, someone needs a quite word with him. He also needs a press officer, he is the coach and this is what he should be judged on pure and simple. He is just about onside this season and has, for one reason or another had limited options as far as team selection is concerned. But now he probably has a few players who could change things around, yet he seems reluctant to use them, and remains very cautious in his team selection, these are tough times for Gus, he must change his ways and attack Burnley from the onset to get the crowd back onside, a win will do wonders, come on everybody get behind the bus and start pushing forwards. Onwards and upwards.
I confess I am modestly chuffed with a draw, as that means a midweek replay I can get to after work next Tuesday
“The fans are still living in the past,” , “They want Niall Quinn and Kevin Phillips back but I’m sorry, I can’t bring them back. You can’t live in the past, “Quinn and Phillips was kick and rush and it worked perfectly but it’s impossible now. I'm not an idiot mate, I can put a three piece jigsaw together.
Then he can call us on it can't he? Not imply we want to play out dated tactics just because we aren't happy with his. You'd think there were only two ways to play football the way he's talking, his way and Peter Reid's way.
Quinn and Philips were able to score goals because they were supplied with the ball from midfield Maybe Gus should attempt to adopt a similar tactic. It doesn't bother me whether they are provided by long passes or short passes. The ball needs to be passed forward though, and players should be selected who have that ability
I read it differently Bri so we'll have to agree to disagree - it's a spin by a paper and that's how I read it. Regardless of the quote from Gus above, I don;t read as him saying we all want kick and rush - I read it as we all want Quinn and Phillips times back which he's right about. You have to remember he's not English as well so how he meant it could be completely different from the way it was printed.
Yep, but the problem is that those 9 men a strolling out like they don't give a ****, instead of bursting out to form a break. It happens every time the keeper collects. It's like they've forgot the basics we all got taught at school. We can't break effectively, we can't build an attack effectively, we can't penetrate the flanks and we can't penetrate down the middle of the pitch. We're ****ing useless and it's Poyet's tactics.
But that doesn't make sense, they're both finished, why would we want back a 48 year old and a 41 year old? He can only be referring the philosophy back then. Which he's referencing as kick and rush. You want a couple of old men to run our attacking line? Surely not?
Do you really think Poyet tells them to do that? Against the mags we scored a classic counter attacking goal - and had other chances created in the same way - why would Poyet not want that? How are his tactics to blame for the players not giving a ****? PVA is lightning fast but is still coming back to full fitness. Defoe isn't slow but hasn't played for ages. I simply can;t blame Poyet for those players that don;t give a **** enough to break out of the box and create something - Johnson does it very effectively and he was missed. I also said that I imagine Poyet is taking the flak for his players looking at his "accepting the blame" article I posted from the Gazette. on another thread, I honestly think he's removing some of the blame from their shoulders as, to me, it's not "him not giving the orders" it's them not following them - we all make our own minds up and this is my opinion as I can;t see Gus Poyet not wanting more from this.
I didn't blame poyet for that mate, I digressed as the post went on to talk about tactics. But I didn't blame him for the pushing out quickly part. However If he's ordering them to push out quicker and they aren't, he's either lost the dressing room or they don't respect their Captains instruction. Something is wrong somewhere.
That doesn't make sense either, we can't go back in time. So your saying he's not suggesting we want those tactics now, he's suggesting we want to go back in time and relive old days? In that case it's the ramblings of a mad man.
You get out the wrong side of bed this morning Bri? My thoughts on it are that he is saying we want the times we had whilst Phillips and Quinn were here (i.e. the enjoyment we got from it) back He alludes to the type of football but he doesn't say the fans want that. In another paragraph he stated that and that's how I read it. no more no less. But, as I say, just an opinion mate
Does the manager not have a section to address the fans in the match day programme any more? Maybe, in his head it's not meant to come across so patronising, if he relayed his feelings to an editor of your programme and then said editor fiddled with the quotes to interpret what Gus wants to say, things would be a lot better. Instead, another foreign manager has deemed it perfectly necessary to rant at the TV Cameras or the press during a conference about things he wants changed, I guarantee you that never, ever has that yielded good results for any manager in history.
