What a load of guff. Do you think the ground would be full if it was say one pound to watch a game? I do. So following logic a price somewhere between 1 pound and todays cost would lead to a full stadium every game. I've been banging on about this for years. Clubs must reduce prices to get grounds full. A full ground has so many benefits from increased match day sales to better atmosphere to even just looking better. Add to this clubs get the vast majority of their money from TV and sponsorships then there really is no excuse for pricing loyal fans out of a game. Which to me is exactly what having empty seats represents.
38,000 is disappointing, but not surprising, given that it was live on the telly. Lower prices and less TV coverage would help get the crowds back into the SoL, but the biggest thing by far is a decent team playing decent football. We were averaging 45-46,000 when Peter Reid was in his pomp.

I am renewing my card at £480 and the price for a seat for Soton is £27, and look what I have put up with for years!. Another thing is put Spurs, Everton, Liverpool, Man c in our position and lets see how many they would average !.

Our seats are already one of the cheapest in the league, and when we have reduced them for cup games the crowds usually drop! In my opinion,the only way we are going to attract bigger crowds is by playing more exciting and entertaining football..
We need both in my opinion. I know our seats are well priced compared to other football teams but compared to going to the cinema, going to a gig, going bowling, watching Sky in the pub. Its very expensive.
The one guaranteed way to fill the stadium is to have a consistently successful team. Sunderland have flirted with it but not produced anything, Newcastle did at least get close to winning the league but blew it. The sojourns into the European stage produced exciting times and that increased their fan base. Neither club now is able to attract quality players so we will remain also-rans for a time yet so long as we have the attitude that survival is the goal.
Can you honestly see us getting anywhere near the top 6? let alone the top 4. Man U, Man C, Arsenal, Chelski, Spurs, Liverpool.... 7th is the best we could ever hope for and with Moyes gone its a possibility but I would say out of our reach currently.
