Oh yeah, no doubt. I was just hypothesising on the basis that some Premiership Rugby clubs have managed 'pitch invasions' that make for a good atmosphere. Admittedly probably wouldn't work in football as football and rugby crowds are quite different in size and other characteristics.
They are different, no doubt. The only difference with pitch invasions on occasions like this is that there's not a hint of malevolence in it. Just a bunch of deliriously happy fans with no intent to do harm or damage. I just despair at the lack of common sense these days.
been on the pitch at Roker park a couple of times. Many many years ago a fan went onto the pitch, grabbed the corner flag and went for the ref with it, think it was against QPR when the ref was a cnut and we were 0-3 down, i think even the players walked off the pitch as well as he was that bad. Someone should do that to that ****er kevin fiend.
Not sure I'd ever be running on the pitch to **** and thank a bunch of folk who've put me through the mill emotionally for the past 8 months.
Sunderland 0 QPR 3 – Frayed tempers in last game please log in to view this image A SURFEIT of red and white and heavy rain before the kick-off, as there was in London on Saturday, provided a Wembley atmosphere for Sunderland’s last League game of the season against newly-promoted Queen’s Park Rangers at Roker Park tonight. last game of season in 1973.
Just been looking at that season. Out of 42 games, 3 players played 41 and 2 played 40 games. So quite a settled team.
I was at this game..We had the FA Cup on display and one of the QPR players had a few goes of knocking it off the stand it was on.
Yes, was on display between the dug outs, both teams went off due to the inept performance of the ref causing crowd trouble where a few went on to try to get at the ref for sending micky horswill off and another few stupid incidents. Stokoe went onto the pitch to calm the crowd down so they could finish the match.
Stan Bowles was the QPR player who tried to boot the ball at the Cup. He told people he was going to do it, and Horswill warned him that if he tried there would be consequences
they should ban the stewards for being so inept before and after people had gotten onto the pitch. did nothing to stop it and did nothing to rectify it. what's the point in having them? useless twats.
Petty & vindictive - Yes but especially when the police force include a dark sided bias - not all mind but a sizable minority
