At what point do we just tell Hanley to stay back at set pieces, he may be good at winning the ball in the air but not in a decent attacking way. Be better to have him at the back with his pace to prevent counter attacks
Kenny holding on to the ball too long today, he’s been much better playing simple and spraying balls out from the back rather than carrying it
We’ve been totally ****ed over by the ref there when clean through. But it’s been far too slow and predictable, no penetration, no real threat.
No doubt the Sunderland fans will be very happy with that, especially after feeling mugged by Norwich at the SOL earlier in the season
Thoroughly depressing game. We started well, but the goal boosted Sunderland and they were the better team from then on. Sara had a disappointing day with many misplaced passes and he's at the heart of Wagner's system. Shades of Bristol City, with slow build up and lack of creativity.
I know most fans say this.... but honestly the ref was appalling...copule of your players dived, given foul by us, a couple of times we tackled got the ball, foul/yellow by us. 09 kisses one of your players gets grabbed by the throat nothing etc etc
thank you I thought it was just me! sometimes (not very often mind) we have had a good ref, but game after game there always seems a bias one way or another...it should not happen. We were certain he was going to gift you a penalty if he could,
He wasn’t great for you quite a few times, eg the bit where the ball went out clearly as well, but both the examples you give he got the decision spot on. You cannot take out man and ball nowadays, it was a clear yellow. And the bloke who went for the kiss was v lucky not to get a yellow for the push in the barriers before and the fake headbutt. Handbags from both of them.
And deliberately pushing a player into a hoarding isn't dangerous play. Yes some of the decision that went our way shouldn't have, equally some decisions that should have gone our way didn't ie the push on Sergeant in the box. o9 kisses someone else who clearly doesn't want to be kissed anywhere else than on the football field and its sexual assault, not that I suggesting it should be treated as that in these circumstance. I agree the ref was poor, but I would say he was equally poor for both sides.
One thing suggested by today is if Sara has a poor game, so do we. Partly because if he has a good game, he lifts McLean's level. I felt both were really way off their recent standards today.
Ben Lee's analysis of Sunderland's tactical masterclass: https://www.pinkun.com/news/23383932.norwich-city-tactical-analysis-sunderland-championship-setback/ Why didn't Wagner continue with the setup that proved so successful against Millwall?
