Patto is awful for that goal mind. He's in no man's land, doesn't come to collect the ball, doesn't stay on his line and his positioning in the goal looks all wrong too, he should have been closer to his front post as the ball comes in, making the striker head it across him.
We were poor last night, the better team won. It's frustrating how inconsistent we are. The same players seem to go from world beaters to anonymous in the same game. Much of that is youth and inexperience which we have to be patient with, but Mowbray has to do better than trying to change the game after 89 minutes. Alese didn't get close to Wallace all night and I thought Cirkin should have been on much earlier. That being said, he didn't get near him either. Wallace is a great operator at this level with so much experience and our young lads got a lesson. As for the Rogic finish, that was pure class. Despite all of the numbers we have in midfield, I still feel we need an experienced and physical presence in there for games like this. I thought Danny Batth had one of his few poor performances of the season and Corry Evans was poor too. It was just one of those days where we came up against a better, more experienced and more physical team who are in very good form. Bad day at the office, pick ourselves up and go again.
I wish I knew the answer to that. The inconsistency from one half to another is becoming a regular feature of our play. It isn't always good first half, poor second either...sometimes it's the other way round. Baffling!
I agree, and then we give the next manager and a few months then sack them and get another one in after that - sounds like a great plan!!! Also every single club could say they would be on the top 6 if they havent thrown away points
Pre VAR, that's out of play. Post VAR maybe it isn't. We don't use VAR so it would normally have been flagged out. Unlucky there.
As you say...yes,it's a great plan, and it's not like we haven't tried it before....and look where that got us. Take no notice of @monty987 man.....big time wind up merchant!
Monty posted prior to that one about us getting beat of a relegation threatened team man! WBA are not relegation threatened don't care what their league position is just had to look at their results since new manager came in to know they weren't a team struggling or short of confidence. Watch them that second half and it's obvious they will be on a late push for playoffs.
But Wallace isn't quick or anything like that. He just stood out on the right, received the ball and whipped it in, time and time and time again. Just put cirkin on at half time and tell him to man mark him. That and Alese doubling up on him should curtail the threat surely.
Wallace is a great player at this level. If you look at his record over the previous 4 season, he's hit double figures for goals in 3 of them and double figures for assists in 3 of them. We should have had a game plan for him. Doubling up on him could have easily left us exposed somewhere else though so it's never that simple.
TM got it wrong 2nd half, it’s simple as that, we were great 1st half and have to start finishing teams off, if we finish teams off that 2nd half doesn’t happen. I haven’t seen his interview but surely he could see after 5 mins of that 2nd half that he had to change it. I have only just thawed out as well, I’ve never been as cold at the match as I was last night
Yeah, just watched it back. There is a still that shows when Wallace makes contact he is miles out of his line. He should be able to just collect it. He doubts himself and goes back to his line and then it's too late and a goal. He has improved but crosses and kicking weak points.
I dont think it was, we were excellent first half and didn't make the correct adjustments in the second half. We outplayed them for long spells and it needed tweaking to cope work their oelverloads. We didn't do it correctly.
Yeah I thought that too.. if he stays open his line it’s a very tough header. Looks like he completely misread it.
His kicking is only poor when we go long. We don’t do that so often so it’s not as much of an issue imo
I finally lost it with Dan Neil last night, far too timid to progress. He stood off and stood off all through the game. There was a time in the second half where we watched him for five minutes and he just stood and watched the game passing him by ... ... I've no idea what he thinks he's there for.
He has been caught out with a couple of short passes to feet that's put is in the ****e. Last week immediately comes to mind when he passed it straight to their player. I like Patto. But he needs to improve distribution and being fully committed to claiming a ball. Their goal yday was like the QPR keeper goal. He come, panicked then retreated. By then it was to late and it was goal.
Needs to stop thinking it's a 5 a side came and get mucked in. Must be more physical and robust in the challange. Cm surely an area of essential buying in the Jan window for me. Someone 6 foot with half decent passing skills will do.
I agree it could've left us a bit short elsewhere doubling up on him but it was so clearly obvious their gameplan revolved around him that we needed to stop it, they might not have had much else.
Surprised Matete hasn't been getting a look in tbh. Ok hes not the best on the ball but at least he has the energy and ratting to compete in there. I find it really poor from the management that he's just been ****ed off out of the squad all together tbh. Especially when it's energy and putting your foot in is what we're crying out for. Dajaku on the bench man ffs.
