Nobody’s gonna tell me that we couldn’t have used Ekwah quite a lot this season. He’s definitely capable of what Samed gave us today (although I still think he was fine and am concerned he’s being fitted for being scapegoat). However he’s also given us FAR better games in red and white than Alan Browne has too. I’d welcome him back next season if we don’t go up.
Was a time when he looked like was gonna be a great player, just never moved forward. You do wonder what Reg could get out of him, there’s no question that people who say he wasted his physicality are correct. There is a player there, we’ve seen it.
Just tipsy as opposed to doing an impression of a Border Collie and crawling home. Watford better than us. Watford complete cheating time wasting b*stards Ref + 2nd half. Incompetent c*nt. Proper summary tomorrow
The things to forget today are the result, performance between 20-75 mins, and the atmosphere. The positives are Watson and Mundle are a week closer to their return.
Surely we're not still making these snap judgements on players. It’s just a set up for ‘Told ya so/no one is more pleased to be wrong’ in my opinion … … I really don’t think Ekwah will ever play Champions League football tbh.
Ekwah would barely have featured, he plays the same position as Neil and Jobe and nowhere near their levels Best for his career and development that he's gone out on loan Ekwah has had some unreal games for us but he's also had more where he's been really poor Not saying he's not got a future with us but until he learns the out of possession stuff he hasn't got a hope in English football
Jobe is possibly, and I’m trying not to exaggerate, twice the player Ekwah is despite their physical similarities. I like him but he really needs to be prepared for the donkey work as well as the show pony stuff.
That's a really fair point. What's Samed ? I have seen him with my eyes at home and he has been below the curve. Against Plymouth and Watford too btw.
I said to my friend (yes I have one) that if Isidor puts that chance away, it would have papered over the cracks. We have gradually been getting worse the last couple of month, but then we pull off a great result and the Boro game was the recent one. Our home form is problematic in terms of how we usually start and also how relaxed we are. Individuals have been blamed, but the team wasn't cohesive with their press, nor did they press enough. Aside from that, Regis got it wrong again today, rectified it with good subs. That's why I like him, he's capable of surprising us and is constantly learning. I say he got it wrong, but if they'd been at it we might have beaten them in the first half. I don't like Samed and Neil in the same midfield. Rigg is ineffective because he's physically lacking. Mayenda has a wonderful link with Isidor, I really can't believe he doesn't start given his effectiveness.
I would have happily had him get every one of the minutes that Browne has had this season - and I would imagine he could have had similar minutes in the games where AB hasn’t been available too. There’s definitely stuff that he needs to learn/improve but I think that the presence of ‘experience’ is doing a lot of the work of making Browne seem more effective in many fans eyes. I don’t see it based on actual performances. Fair point about it not being best for PEs development, mind.
Browne started the season well but injuries have ruined his season Browne is the better all round CM for championship football than Ekwah is imo RLB obviously wasn't keen on him after seeing him in preseason. We play a CM 2 out of possession and Ekwah struggles in a 2 - he's playing decent in a 3 in France Suppose it's a pointless argument as its all about opinions IMHO the right thing to do was loan Ekwah out and nothing I've seen so far changes my opinion on that
Keep reading we will be fine when Mundle and Watson return, as the both play the same position thats only half the problem solved . Today we played most of the game with only one player up front who can score goals with any consustency and not much else in the midfield positions tbh, thats why we struggle at home and will continue to do so unless Reg can sort out the imballance in the team, and he looks no nearer to doing this that ever.
Aye definitely an opinion thing. Personally I think he’s been disappointing throughout. Never looked super effective and was quickly ousted by Rigg. Never made much of an impact from the bench despite him being a player that RLB trusted early. Don’t see him making any impact on the starting XI when he’s back either.
He is the very definition of a top level DM. Wins the ball and passes to the players better than him, was not his fault today ekwah you used to slag worse than **** another case of players becoming better when they’re not playing for us
Ekwah would have been available where Samed hasn't been, but you can see already what he gives. They're different players.
Interestingly I think Mundle or Watson returning does away with 4-4-2 unless they’re gonna play off the right. Suspect we might see more of an outright 4-3-3 when they’re back with Mayenda on the right of the front three.
It's weird, we have seemingly switched from a good home side to being incapable of playing at home. Teams are sitting off quite a bit and just having our lives. Hence probably why Reg wanted a big strong striker with aerial presence.
Balancing a team isn’t only one option, that’s not how football works. It opens several different options in each passage of play, creating space and time. If you have Mundle running in behind, and Roberts holding his run, then the oppo are stretched both sides creating space in middle. Having one side of the park non existent, as we have had recently, blocks space in centre and on opposite flank. It is highly plausible we get more goals from all of the midfield when the side is balanced out and we aren’t forced to play a CM out wide who’s instinct is to hold the ball or come inside.
