As a person O9 is probably the most relatable player to the fans we have. I had changed my opinion on the lad as I thought he was a disaster but he then buckled down and started putting in some really good performances. I would now suggest, teams could be targeting him as they feel he could be our weakest link, which when it comes to defence, I think he is. If we did manage to get promoted, as sad as this is to say, but he could never make it in the first team. Sentiment has no place in football. We need better and I'm confident that our manager/recruitment team know that
I’m in row 37 east stand, there’s times we walk to town from seaham and then have climb those steps and they feel like Everest
hopefully just a blip, but 09 hasnt been at his best recently if Ballard were fit i would have him in 09 place.
I agree. Back in the day, if we hadn’t played McPhail at Norwich I’m pretty sure we’d have stayed up in ‘91.
Interesting our ex—CEO was sitting with us plebs yesterday. Glad he feels he can get in amongst the fans and enjoy the atmosphere. I wonder if it was out of choice or necessity?
Must have been. Only remember 1 big one like I said that lead to a goal etc. That said if we are comparing the 2 players then Mepo is the superior player.
No, but to defend the lad, he isnt a loan forward, it was a waste of time mostly kicking the ball to him. I would rather we started Trey (not even going to attempt to spell his name)
Not sure hes made plenty of mistakes, for me his sending off at sheff Utd was a mistake He's had a couple of poorer games by his standard recently, and folk have commented on these Mistakes that lead to goals will always be highlighted more Neil for me hasn't made many mistakes this season, but folk will remember the sending off and then giving away the penalty against Watford - and potentially will remember him making a mistake for the winner last night I get it some folk will only see the mistakes in a player but the flip is also true, some people won't see the faults in a player
If you're implying I can't see the faults in O'Nien it's not the case, I just occasionally try to redress the balance somewhat. Personally I don't only pay attention to mistakes that lead to goals, if a defender makes a cock up but the attacker misses an open goal it's just luck. Sometimes players have runs where they don't get that luck.
During this period, when I agree O'Nien hasn't been at his best, he's had various defenders around him. That can always destabilise a defence as we all know, yesterday he had a different keeper. Plus he had Hjelde playing somewhere in defence and also Alese for two thirds of the game then Johnson for the rest. In the previous match he had Alese for half the game and Cirkin the other half. At Stoke, before that, he had Cirkin for two thirds then Alese for the last third. In the WBA game he played full back with Mepham and Ballard in the middle. IIRC that's the only time we've failed to score, at home, and the lowest attempts on target. It's easier to count the mistakes 'that have cost us' than the plays that have gained points but our attacking intent seemed to suffer. I also remember a dozen, or so, corners that the two big CBs made little use of. O'Nien has played every game, no rest for him, and only Hume has been a constant. On top of all this Patterson has appeared nervous for the last month but possibly because of all the changes. Whatever the case O'Nien keeps being put into the team so we have to accept that ... ... there seems to be what appears to be a bit of a campaign to get him out by listing 'his errors'. Thankfully we have a clear headed manager who'll do what he thinks is best for the team and ignore the noise. He did it with Neil and persevered with Watson when there were initial doubts, as just two examples.
I agree and it was freezing as well . Tough game for Samed to start with us so will give him a pass on his mistake . Looks to be ,a get the ball and pass type, not a flare player . Left the ground worried he ran like Jeff Whiltey mind
