Agreed. My most miserable time supporting Sunderland was circling the plughole in the PL. Knowing that if the opposition scored in the first ten seconds you might as well get a head start on the traffic 95% of the time. Not competing and paying top ten wages to absolute wasters for the privilege.

Wasnt to all newcastle fans there which is what the headline n story said. My mate was there n said that most didnt get a free drink. There were pints pulled then the machines went down, rather than throwing them away they just handed them to newcastle fans as the fans were starting to kick off. The bars were closed after this.

You're right,of course, the club would welcome promotion if it were to happen. It may be that they would see it as an opportunity to take the £100m flow into the coffers, spend it very wisely and in keeping with the overall philosophy, most likely losing 2 or 3 players, come back down again and go back up straightaway,as others have done. That would make sense as a strategy....although risky! One of the problems with it is that we,as fans, would sense our deja vu in the PL and have to suffer being thumped every week for at least a season. :emoticon-0107-sweat:emoticon-0106-cryin

In some minds it will always be facts.

Fact the club chose the allocation, fact we banned staff from wearing Sunderland badges, fact we gave everyone free beer, etc etc etc.

I was behind a bloke on the concourse trying to pay using his phone and it wouldn't have it, I used my debit card and it worked. Funny old day.

Did everyone not think that the last time we were relegated, that worked well.

Not looking for a quarrel with you mate but just wondering why you admire Leicester, yes they were the best team in the premier when they won the title but they did cheat by going into administration as a couple of clubs done before getting into the premier. For me any team that cheats, man city, Chelsea, scum etc do not get any admiration from me

For all that I’d hate a season like some newly promoted teams have. Bringing £300million into the club right now would be wild.

If we went up and came down my feeling is we’d be in a stronger position by a distance than staying down, so in a bizarre way even if we had an awful season up there ‘the greater good’ would win out.

Besides, we have no idea that if we did go up, the ownership group don’t then switch to players who are PL ready.

Always had a similar opinion. Seasons come and go but the insurmountable wealth of the premier league and being party to parachute payments and the like would enable the club to prepare to become truly sustainable at the next level

I posted on the development thread that some thought we weren't ready for the championship but we are competing top half.

Years ago I'd of thought "not ready"

But these days I believe you have to take your chances, especially with the money involved.

I reckon KLD etc would want it.

I remember us being called a yo yo club pre Reid era. I hated that.
We did go up and down with Reid but you could sense the momentum.

Maybe not the same now but there is that feeling of going forwards.

That's a very fair question. My recollection was less of cheating, more to do with a stupid excess spend on a new stadium coupled with a relegation and the loss of TV money from ITV digital. What they had to do was had debt forgiven and use every accounting trick in the book to turn debt into equity, and buy creditors out cheaply. It was almost the same scenario with us when we were relegated and had the likes of Roswell on the books etc. I do believe that since then they have been well run from an exec point of view and have kept within the rules. I suppose my point is that they haven't gone out and splashed some rich persons cash just to buy success and silverware
