With the players we've got like Amad, Pritchard, Embleton, Dajaku who could all have played upfront with Stewart or Simms we're well enough stocked.

Stewart wasn't exactly known to be injury prone and both him and Simms being out is just bad luck, it happens. Maybe we were pushing our luck playing both of them together but it seems reasonable that if one of them dropped out the other would still be available.

Fair point. With the points return specifically.

As a rule of thumb (IMHO) if you intend playing one striker up front, you probably have 3 strikers, with slightly different attributes for tactical flexibility adding to the factots of rotation, injuries, loss if form etc,.

Intending to play 2 stikers you probably have 4, as for the reasons mentioned above.

Personally I do not see Embo (good player as he is) as a striker. It is also noticeable that our manager did not choose to start with one of the excellent young players as striker, kind of refuting Speakman's point.

Diamond in pre-season was okyish as a striker, lots of pacy running putting the defenders under pressure. Unfortunately he us at Lincoln where he has scored a few.

Stumbled when we have played it for nearly all ages this season? More suited ? That's opinion and probably because we signed 4 wingers and no extra striker. I would expect us to have a back up. Usually 3 stickers work.

Speakman said we didn't need one. Let's see.

Yeah spot on. Good assessment here and common sense.

Your opinion of Speakman is clouding your view in my opinion.

Look at it a different way, who do you drop to play 2 up top?

    Depends on formation.

It's not, playing embo as a striker is facts and it's detrimental.

Who would you drop to bring Cirkin back into the team then?
I think dropping Alese after his performances in the last 3 games would be very harsh and have a very negative effect on the lad. Hes been a stand out player for us, even managing to chip in with a goal.

Think it's best to agree to disagree rather than argue.

In the games since the injuries we have in the most part looked a real threat and scored some brilliant goals, yesterday it didn't click against a side clearly sent out for a clean sheet and a draw

I think Cirkin comes back in (when 100% fit only) and then Alese shifts into CB with Batth. It's then between shifting to a back 3 or O'Nien/Gooch fighting for the RB spot.

@Prehab26 all this talk of being needing another striker and being short, is this to deflect from the fact you jinxed Stewart by talking about him never being injured about 36 hrs before he got injured in the warm up with Boro? <laugh><laugh>

Rotating them I can see but no way I'd drop Alese for Cirkin at the moment, he's been immense. Cirkin will just have to try and outperform him when he gets a chance.

Maybe a way they could play together, I don't know what other positions Alese can play/has played. I could see him in midfield potentially.

I have no idea mate, nobody really deserves to be dropped but leaving Cirkin out will be hard.
It's going to be even more confusing when Ballard returns aswell because he's by far our best CB imo.

Me too mate but I wouldn't want to start playing young players out of position just to get them on to the pitch

Agreed. Even O'Nien/Gooch deserve to keep their places but that's the kind of headache we want really.

I just hope we stick to a 4-3-3 personally because I think we have to get Jack Clarke as far up the field as possible.

Aye it wouldn't be the best idea at the moment I'm just wondering about the long term, he looks comfortable going forward and seems to like having a shot.

Bit of a tough one for Mowbray innit, imagine having too many good players to choose from.

When was the last time it was discussed amongst our fans who gets the chance to play when players return as they are all playing so well. Cirkin, Ballard and Huggins all to come back but the lads playing now are doing a great job. The change in this club over the past few years is excellent.

I mean yeah it would be nice if we had an extra striker with quality but we did spend a lot bringing in some class players and the budget can only go so far. Maybe we looked at who we could bring in for the money left over, if there was any, and it wasn't worth it.

You can make a case for it either way, but what it isn't for me is a legitimate stick to beat Speakman with.
