I was about to say 'This is why we should avoid writing off new, especially young, players.' But it's irrelevant because, thankfully, the club pay no attention ... ... if they did few of the squad would've escaped the chop.
He def can, it's often the thing that comes last with young forwards. Who knows if he will get there but he's making massive improvements as this seasons gone on Hopefully the clinical finishing will show up 2nd half of this season There's very few strikers at this level that have that composure we are all talking/hinting about Loads of strikers in the league are missing that chance he had today, he was coming in from an angle on his weaker foot. He took a poor touch imo that closed the angle for him, that's something he needs to improve on but I've seen so many championship strikers do exactly the same this season
I agree and Le Bris seems perfect for that following his comments about Mayenda after he missed those chances against Blackburn and Stoke, followed up by keeping him in the team against Sheffield and he paid him back with a goal and a good performance, which he followed up today with.
Imagine creating those chances in a play off game and having good quality defenders being dragged all over the shop
In the last 2 games we’ve scored 3 goals. One goal and two assists from Mayenda. He’s 19 years old. I think we should be very grateful to have him. Will he improve? In all likelihood yes. Not many 19 years olds are the finished product.
A few on here tore holes in Amad when he first got his chance in the team - some never learn, even from experience
Was pleased with Mayenda tonight. Maybe got a bit giddy with one or two but was also unlucky with a few too (good blocks/saves). The pass to Isidor was excellent and his all round play was good. Felt like he was pretty exhausted by the end too. The partnership with Isidor feels like it could be really dangerous. Definitely seems like Wilson benefits from it too. Just need to make sure we have enough in the rest of the team on both sides of the ball to compensate.
Surely the question is would you rather have 19yo Mayenda for £700k ... ... or 32yo Kieffer Moore for the same fee but three times the wages. Financially option B could easily be a disaster. If he doesn't nail down a first team place you're paying a two/three year contract for a player who'll be worthless by the end. We've had to pay off the likes of Grigg and Danny Graham before which is a shameful drain on finances.
We've struggled to find a way to get service to our central attackers for ages, still plenty of room for improvement there but Isidor and Mayenda as a duo have huge potential. Should have scored about 6 today (as a team), we only got 1 but I'd much rather see us create chances and not take them than score 1 from a handful of chances. The two of them seem to have a natural understanding and if we can keep hold of Wilson it's a very exciting partnership.
I like the link up play between the two: Mayenda coming off the right, Wilson peeling off to the left then cutting to the right or Wilson going left/deep and Mayenda taking up the central role. All good, mixing it up and splitting the centre backs and leaving one on one situations. Very difficult to defend against two fast, mobile strikers.Still early days and lots of development to take place on the training ground. Plus Mayenda is still a kid and will develop further physically (he's already quite a unit) and in experience.
Well we've just won our third home game on the bounce had a really good festive period and still some on here are picking holes in some of our players....Hume,,Mayenda, AA and a smattering of Patto are the fall guys this time. The players are knackered but the wrong pass, or the wrong shot or not kicking it long and finding a teammate are just some of the crimes highlighted again. Once just once can we not just applaud the cracking season these lads and the manager are giving us and give these lads a break ffs. Getting sick of having to say this after most games.
One thing I noticed yesterday, I’m not usually in the ground for the warm ups but was in early yesterday for some reason, ogunsunyi is bloody massive up close for a bairn, his finishing in the drills was good too
If he hasn't learned how to do it now, he's not going to. We need to adapt our game to remove him from the equation when playing out from the back.
Exactly CM. This team is the first team in years that I feel a connection to. The last one was Reid’s team in the late 1990s. They may not be world beaters but I can certainly see the passion there.
